I am not in a position at the moment to test this myself so I am wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with a 22 LR or a 22 Short hitting heavy guage aluminum siding (not galvanized steel)? Distance would be from approximately 75 feet. Will the round penetrate the siding? I am trying to determine if a building was actually hit with a 22 cal. round. Thanks for your help.

That's the problem. Whatever hit the side of the building didn't penetrate. It just left a couple of small dents, about the size of a 22 bullet. The siding is a bit heavier than the usual stuff you see on houses.

Probably a pellet gun. A 22 round would creator a bit bigger than .22 if it didn't penetrate. It would also most likely leave some copper wash on the area.

at 75 feet it will go through without a problem. sounds like it might have been a slingshot with a Ball bearing or an air rifle pellet. if it was lead it would normally leave some trace of it also.

You can take a 6" screwdriver and poke it thru aluminum siding and into your house.

A .22cal bullet will most definately penetrate the wall of a house. Also FYI, a .22 bullet can travel over 1.6km

We shot up an old Barbecque with 22LR from a Rem 597 a few years ago.

At about 50 yds it went through the 1/8" aluminum lid and dented the opposite side.

Not a "Toy".

I have seen .22LR completly penetrate a hard drive at 25 yards. Also pass through a steel cased(.5mm) power supply.
Siding is no issue.

I was shooting some Velocitors at an old farm site with a shed as a backstop. My target was at 50 yards and the shed at 100. The shed is made out of tongue and groove (pine I think) which is about 1/2 inch thick on each wall. I recovered one that came out the other side. It's not tin siding, but it gave me some new respect for the little round.

Ok, I'll bite. Please explain the context.

Huh? Free old hard drives were being thrown out at university. Lined 10 of them up on a board in front of the backstop and plinked at them with the 10/22 one by one. I then threw them out
Is that what you meant by context?
