I have a mag loader that I believe is a Butler Creek (I bought it used) and when I load my 25rnd Marauder mags the last few cases are dented. Any partucular reason for this? Time for a new loader? Up until the last 4 or 5 rounds it loads perfectly. TC
22 Cases Dented From BC 10/22 Loader?

Ever try stuffing 10 pounds of potatoes into a 5 pound bag? The problem is that the magazine is, for some reason, not allowing the last few rounds to be loaded without a lot of resistance. This could be that the follower is catching on something, that the magazines are dirty, that the spring is bent, or other magazine related problems.
You are putting a lot of pressure on a thin brass case with the loader when the magazine is full or near full, but something is resisting the last inch or so of the follower plus the 20+ other cartridges in the magazine, so you are cramming the pusher part of the magazine loader against this resistance.
Try cleaning your magazines, or only loading 20 rounds. Of course, you could always use a bigger hammer to push them into the magazine.

When you buy new hicap .22 mags, load them to full capacity by hand and let them sit for a few days to set the spring. This will prevent alot of issues with the mags. As buffdog said, make sure your mags are clean and also there is a bit of technique required with the BC loader. Dont just crank the knob, there is a certain resistance you will feel when rounds are loading properly, and it will bind a little when rounds dont want to load smoothly. As soon as you feel that extra resistance, stop and back off a little bit then try again. If you just force it you will be rewarded with a nice little dent that can cause FTF. When mags get dirty enough however it gets to a point that the BC loader cannot push them in without denting them. Either clean the mags or load them by hand.

Same issue I had. Not all rimfire brands will dent as easily but at the first sign of resistance you have to back off. In the end I found it just as quick to reload by hand. I don't use cheap bulk ammo so it didn't make sense to waste it with dented cases.
The ramps are different between butler creek mags and factory style stuff. Look at them side by side you will see what I mean.
My speed loader works flawlessly on bc mags. But sometimes dents cases on factory mags.
I've considered modifying the factory style mags to allow easier loading, but as of yet have not attempted it.
