.22 conversion kit question...

Hey Guys,
I picked up a Colt .22 conversion kit for my AR. Great little kit and I can get in lots of practice with the AR that I can't normally get in.

One question tho about cleaning and care. I've put about half a brick thru it so far and it's getting kinda dirty from trying to see what type of ammo it likes, how do you guys keep these clean and how do you oil them???

They get dirty. No real way around it. I run a dedicated upper that I have crimped the gas tube off on it for rimfire. This prevents some of the crud from getting blown back. I just oil up any of the parts that look like they contact each other with a good dose of Slip 2000 or whatever lube is handy.

I was told to fire off a couple of ten rounders to clean out the gas tube. spray with clp, let it fester and clean as normal. 22lr is probably as dirty as when shooting with a bfa.

Use copper plated 22's to stop leading up the barrel

CLP into the gas tube, then fire off some jacketed 5.56 or .223. Worst case scenario, buy pipe cleaners.

A couple of 10 rounders seams like a lot, I normally do 2 or 3 rounds. And I stick to copper .22

copper plated rounds reduce it, and use a small brush to clean any crap deposits off the conversion unit. i had one a while ago, and found it helped to punch out the roll pin that held the firing pin and clean out its channel as well, otherwise it would sometimes stick.
