Im onto my next project. A coyotes worst nightmare, 22 Creedmoor. I'm wanting to do like a 20-22" 1:7 pipe, either medium/heavy fluted steel or heavy carbon contour.

Just curious if guys have any first hand experience with the Sig Cross platform? I was originally going to use a Tikka action for the project but I did a little more digging and the Sig Cross looks like a decent platform....and they look pretty bada** aesthetically from the factory.

Cost wise be about the same (close enough for me) all things considered:

Sig Cross $2000 +/- USED+$1000 for pre-fit barrel
Tikka $900 +/- USED+$1000 for pre-fit+$1000 chassis (maybe more if you can't get the factory barrel off without a smith, this has happened before as they can be a pain to remove)

At the end of the day the SIG might still cost a guy a smidge more but from what I can see its also very customizable like a Tikka. And it would be as light as a Tikka if not lighter as the XRS or even ACC for a Tikka add's some weight. I just can't seem to find a Cross in person to play with the action and shoulder the chassis. I know the Tikka action is smooth, and thats all fine and dandy but if the Cross feels like a Ruger American or Savage, i'm out and the Tikka gets the nod. Im not expecting it to be as slick as a Tikka but if its close to Tikka or comparable to a 700 feel i'll likely go that route.

Thoughts anyone?

I have a tikka battue that is in a pr precision micro chassis and used this set up for past 2 week’s hunting mostly in forest condition. Very happy with the handling of it in tikka. I would go with the tikka as I do have the cross also

X2 for the Tikka. You'll be able to pick the stock or chassis you want and also have a great action. Barrel will get changed either way if your planning on building a 22cm

I got a 22 creedmoor in a horizon rifle, she’s a beauty and shoots awesome, but think I paid a little north of 4g, but well worth the money, 77 gr. Tmk’s dump coyotes dead right there, think I’m going to try it for deer this year as well. I know they have 1 more atleast for sale where I bought mine if you’re interested. I have the vandal X, they have a villan left in stock 18” barrel

Oddly enough after I posted this I was looking at IRunGuns to see who even makes a factory 22 creed. Horizon was the first one that popped up.
I was even debating using it for deer as well. Honestly other then the 0.019" bullet diameter not much difference between a 80gr out of a 243 or a 80gr ELD-X from a 22 creed. I'm sure it would flatten a deer out to 300 yards, just need to make your shot count no different then a 243 at that distance. And judging by your location I figured out what store youre talking about, looked at that one online.

I think my biggest hesitation with something like a Horizon is the fact you still get a Greyboe stock, Stiller action and a brand name barrel. I could have that built by a smith for the same money if not less depending where you source parts. Im not knocking them in any way shape or form i'm sure the'yre beautiful rifles and they shoot but you kinda get where i'm going with that. The only difference might be the fluting on the barrel, which if im being honest looks sick.

Thanks Keith. I know the Tikkas are hard to beat. Ive had probably 15 of them over the years, all T3's or T3X's. I love em, but there was something about the Cross that intrigued me so just wanted someone who's handled both of them opinion. Appreciate it. I'll likely stick to my guns here (no pun intended) and go with a Tikka.

Be nice to find a CTR in 6.5 Creed or 308 to rip the barrel off, then I wouldn't need a chassis off the hop to accommodate the heavy barrel, I could use the factory stock till I decide what I want to throw it in.

Another thing you could look at is a ctr in 22-250 in an 8twist and rechamber it.
No such chambering in a CTR that I am aware of.

Tikka did a few runs of fast twist 22-250 in the lite configuration that lot's of guys bought stateside but they weren't very common in Canada.

I hate chassis rifles for predators guns. They're just too dam cold to hang on to. I also do my coyote hunting walking around so lightweight is a must. I pick tikka but the cross is a cool platform. I would have one if they came in lefty.

Sure you could have it built by a smith but Horizon firearms are literally the guys who brought the 22 creed to life. I would go that route personally.

Sig cross vs tikka, doubtful that you’ll be able to get a tikka as light as a cross. There are weight savings in the design vs bolting an action into a chassis.

I was away for work here the last 4 days and found a shop where I was that had a Cross Trax in stock. I was able to play with it a bit, I quite liked it, minus the rear butt stock being almost non existent. I’m sure I could change that BUT they also had a used Tikka 22-250 for dirt cheap (under $650) so I was able to scoop that up and I’ll just use that for an action and get a barrel and chassis/stock on order here.

Not saying an Sig Cross isn’t in my future at some point but for this project I’ll stick to the tikka. Thanks guys.
