Any suggestions for a nice ACCURATE .22 cal rifle for a 12 year old girl that is starting her first year inshooting sports? She has been out once and truly loved shooting so as her uncle, I find it is my duty to ensure htat hse ha sa nice quality and accurate rifle of her own to keep her interested.

I know nothing aobut rimfires and would aprpeciate any useful advice regarding q uality, accurate and well built firearm for her

Oh yeah a pink stock would make her day, even if I have to add a nice aftermaket one.

henry lever action shoot very well.. It really depends on how much you want to spend.. a 10/22 is not bad..

Ruger puts out the 10/22 with the Hogue pink over-mould stock, Nice little gun actually. Depends though on whether you want her to have a semi-auto or not.

The Mossberg Plinkster is in Pink but I'm not a fan of the gun itself. They are pretty chinsey.

Or if you have anyone local that does Duracoat or Armacoat you could make any gun pink.

As a novice shooter ...I suggest a single bolt action ...safe and cannot be loaded without a direct action. An older Cooey 39 or Lakefield Mark I are just the ticket. If she does not continue ..you are not out much $. Strip the wood and paint or stain to her liking.

Not worried about the cost of the rifle, anything up to about $700.00 is fine, as I view it as an investment into our sport. If she really dislieks it or decides not to persue shooting, it can always been donated to another young new shooter, or it can keep my other rifles company in the safe!

To be honest, stock colour is irrelevant. It can always been painted or duracoated as mentioned.

I am a little split regarding single shot or repeater. I like the idea of teaching solid fundamentals and safe shooting habits via a single shot. It requires more dedicated concentration and muscle memory to perform safely. However as kids have short attention spans, something that keeps them in the moment is sometiems a benefit.

Maybe take a look at the CZ Scout? Savage makes a youth model as well that can be had in a pink stock(even thumbhole pink stock), though I'd wager the CZ will be more accurate and more costly but still well under $700. These are the two I'm contemplating for my daughters, but they are only 6 and almost five, so not sure if they're ready yet.

I'm getting my 12 yr. old boy a Marlin 60. But I would of got that for my girl as well. Getting him a semi to keep it interesting for him.

I was considering some of the youth models of guns around incl. shotguns, but they seem too small and will be outgrown too fast IMO.

One thing to consider is how the gun will be handled. If it's going to see a lot of rough use and not get cared for very well, then maybe try staying with a lower cost gun.

Ithaca Saddlegun. Nice little 'lever action' single shot 22 based on the Martini action. Stock small enough for kids but big enough for adults.

Doesn't savage make something called a cricket or a chipmunk? Single shot, smaller stocked .22?

I'm almost certain I saw one at a gun show this summer.

It seems that I am in a similar situation as the OP. Here is a question that is relevant to the discussion - doesn't someone make a .22 where you can remove a plug to convert from single shot to mag fed bolt action? I am sure I saw such a beast but can't for the life of me remember who makes/made them. Any help would be appreciated.

Savage 93 BTVS in 22WMR - my 10 yr old son has one and loves it.

Picked up Ruger 10/22s for both my boys when they turned 12. Figured that in the future they could make them look and shoot any way they want because of the assortment of aftermarket barrels and stocks available.

I just answered my own question. It is the CZ 452 Scout rifle. A youth sized .22 with a magazine adaptor that makes it a single shot. When the time comes that adaptor can be replaced by the standard 452 5 or 10 round magazines. I know that the full sized 452's are very accurate shooters and would assume the same for the scout version.

By all accounts I've heard, the CZ Scout is very accurate.

Savage makes a single shot Cub bolt action with a pink laminated stock, accutrigger, peep sight, grooved for scope, very lightweight and nicely accurate. My granddaugher loves hers.

No Question cz scout, I have a 6 year old that hits clays all day long at 80 yards $429 out the door with a single shot mag and a 10 shot magazine. irons and a rail so you can scope it. I wouldn't consider anything else.

The CZ's are tough to beat if you're looking to invest in a .22 that will reward anyone at any age/skill level.

Also easy to sell if the interest/need isn't there.
