.22 for 12 year old girl

I'm getting my 12 yr. old boy a Marlin 60. But I would of got that for my girl as well. Getting him a semi to keep it interesting for him.

I was considering some of the youth models of guns around incl. shotguns, but they seem too small and will be outgrown too fast IMO.

One thing to consider is how the gun will be handled. If it's going to see a lot of rough use and not get cared for very well, then maybe try staying with a lower cost gun.

Dude, my savage cub is my favourite gun to shoot, and I am about 6 feet 210 pounds. I might look funny doing it but it's a fantastic little backpacker.
Plus is fires shorts which are a real blast and good for the neighbours.

PLEASE keep in mind that this will be your childs *first* gun, and as such, will likely be kept forever and then passed down.

With that in mind, stay away from 10/22's, clones, and all the other crap, and buy a truly classic, high quality rifle that is worthyof being "the first".

Each of my girls (3 and 8) will be recieving a Browning BL-22 Gr. II on their 12th Birthday. After that they can play around with others, but these will be the "firsts", and my grand kids will have them as their "first" as well :)

I can't recommend CZ enough. Sturdy, well-made guns that notoriously shoot like lasers. While there aren't nearly as many after-market parts as a 10/22 or similar, there is a large CZ following with a decent number of useful upgrades available, when it comes time. I intend mine to be handed down for the next few generations at least.

Never liked the savage bolts, but that's what my daughter picked (pink stock). Its a great rifle, nice and light, and accurate to boot. Not the thumbhole stock, but she picked it. I'd recommend this one, or the cz, as has been suggested. Size doesn't matter with one of these rifles, it'll be fun forever. My son and I both shoot it, and its a hoot.

Bought my girls (now 13 & 11) a basic Cub 3 or 4 yrs ago for something like $200. Painted it pink with butterfly "camo". They like it. Accurate & fun to shoot.

Ruger 10-22. Cant go wrong. Easy to use, accurate, Lots of parts availiable, cheap, you can customize it in anything you want and when your kid wants to have a bigger gun, easy to sale.

Glad to see some Savage suggestions.

The first gun I ever shot was a Lakefield/Mossberg Mark II repeater. It's now called the Savage Mark II repeater, but it's the same gun, besides some differences in the bolt design and the fact that it's predrilled for a rail.

I have now had that same gun for damn near 20 years and it's still as accurate as ever...not sure if the new Savage's can attest to that type of longevity, but I know I am quite happy with it and wouldn't part with it for anything. Pretty much follows me every time I go shooting...love plinking with that thing and hope to get a few grouse with it this year.

Savage are accurate, but are really clubs, for a nice little gun the CZ Scout really outclasses the savage in fit and finish by miles. I am well over 6 feet, nearing 7 and find it really easy to shoot so your daughter will never outgrow it, a trigger upgrade from yodave is a whopping $15 shipped and turns the trigger into a whole different class.

I bought a CZ Scout for my 8 yr old daughter and she loves it and better yet I do. I liked how short it was and how accurate it shot so much that I bought my self a 16" barrelled American. I now have 5 CZ rimfire rifles and I do not think I will every sell any of them.

My daughter is 5.. she has a cooey single shot bolt gun. No mag. It's ideal for kids because they learn all aspects of shooting. She's pretty good with it too.. It's very light, quite accurate, will shoot anything and are very cheap. Can't lose.

I've start my son with my first gun, a Cooey model 600. I later bought him a Browning BL-22 Gr.I and a Buck Mark pistol.

check out the Thompson/Center R-55 sporter, best semi 22LR you can get. these shoot just as well as CZs.

Agree, my boys have the TC R-55 all weather but it has heavy barrel ( shilen match stainless) heavy, they shoot it off a bipod and it is more accurate than the cz line, by quite a bit.

SR22 all day, everyday. Easy to find, easy to sell, very accurate. If there's a .22LR out there that says "fun" it's the SR22.

Since you are after quality, my first choice would be a CZ 452 with a 16" threaded barrel. They are hard to find, but Clay at Prophet River gets them in from time to time. I have had good luck calling and asking him to keep an eye out. He's a great guy to deal with.
These guns feel very light in the hands. If necessary, I would also cut down the stock and stain/paint it pink, if that's what she likes.
They are known to be super accurate (even better than the 22" barrel version) and more than likely would become the favorite .22 for her shooting career. You won't find a finer light weight and accurate bolt gun in .22 LR

Start with a red dot scope or 4x leupold rimfire scope. Fairly close to the $700.00 you're after.
But, even better would be the 3-9x EFR Leupold ultra light scope with AO (around $500 for that one alone however, but what a fantastic scope at 11 ounces). Think of it as an early Christmas gift.

Mount it all in medium burris z-rings, with the plastic inserts.

Guy and gals really perceive fun differently, this little lady needs a bold not a semi, they don't like having their rifles ready to rumble at all times, unlike guys, speaking in generalities here and of course making gender differences, but it has been my experience that girls, prefer patience, and deliberately take their time to make their shots count. I personally would never start a young lady on a semi, ever. never. In time sure but not initially. CZ bolt is aboslutely the way to go, hold their value, truly accurate, and a great rifle to own forever.
