.22 for new grouse hunter?

I don't hunt but think those that do would probably think it's a sin to hunt birds with a rile. That said I'd give it a go with my .22lr Henry Lever loaded with quiets or shorts...........

I've used my Cooey model 39 for many years as me go-to grouse & quail getter. Now that me eyes suck with open sights, my CZ 452 Scout is
perfect for the "boids".

So far this year all I've been using is my 10/22 with a bass pro 1.5-4.5 turkey scope.It shoots quarter size groups out to 60-70 feet lots of head shot grouse . Using Winchester M22 ammo

I don’t know if I’d say that, it seems a 50/50 split from everyone I know that hunts upland game. Shotgun or .22, one seems to be used just as much as the other.

Myself it’s a 12g for grouse and a .22 for hares but I will use the .22 on grouse if it’s what’s in my hands when I see them.

You want a 22 with a removable magazine so that when you see a bird mag in quick & if it flies away mag out quick. My buddy has a Henry lever with the tube and watching him try to load in a hurry is painful.

I used a sling shot “Wrist Rocket” for years for Ruffles and Spruce Grouse. Blue’s, Sharp-tails, and Hungkys flushed to soon. This was when big game hunting with a f rifle on foot. Of course a .22 pistol like a S&W kit gun with cbshorts would have been ideal for this case but illegal .

I use my 452 Lux for pest critters in the yard using CCI CB Longs. Good enough for head shots on rabbits & ferral cats at 25-30+ yrds or so and they make less
noise than me brad nailer. Close neighbors don't notice the pop.
