Totally reliable, I think not! Why would there be do many people posting issues with there 10/22 then?
Fun, yes. As reliable as a bolt action, not even close!!!!!
 
715T...ew...plinking is super fun with a levergun, that would be my first recommendation. There's a decently priced silverboy on the exchange, Henry makes a ton of awesome options. Good for hunting too, and well made rifles, you can feed everything through them without issue.
If you can find an older pump gun, that would work too, or something like a 552 speedmaster. Plenty of bolt gun options too...I wouldn't waste my time with a 715t though. If you absolutely need semi and you wanna buy new, Marlin 795s seem to be the way to go.
 
I was recently looking at getting the 715T for my wife, but decided against it because it's a bit too plastic-y and cheap feeling. I also found the magazine release to be awkward and problematic. I ended up getting her a Remington 597 16.5" heavy barrel.
 
Buy my Remington 597! Lol. Seriously, I've had a couple of these Remingtons and they are great shooters. I use VQ hammers, the trigger is amazing! There's a member here that makes a fantastic bolt handle for them. I have a hb model that I will likely be buried with.
 
If you have intentions of buying a bolt action, consider the Marlin's. They are well made and very accurate. I love my Marlin 925! Its a laser beam. If you're leaning toward a semi-auto and want to stay away from the common 10/22 or 597, have a look at the Marlin 785/60 or Savage 64. They are well priced rifles with very good accuracy.
 
Thanks for all the input, alot of great info and I'll be sure to put it all to use when I start my search. And I'm not really looking for anything 'tactical', more inclined towards some sort of semi forsure though, although a lever could be a lot of fun as well!
 
There's a Marlin 989 on the EE. I'm having a hard time not buying it... You will not be better served than with that little beauty. Please buy it and ease my pain...
 
I vote for the 10/22.......
Been super reliable for me.
I have a carbine and a take down and they are both accurate and especially FUN to shoot.
My two cents.....
