So I have been shooting when I can with my savage MK2 BV. Every time I try a 5 group challenge to see how tight I can get my groups. I get the following problem. The first couple of groups are super wide. 1.25 inch plus. Then they get right tight. 1/2" to 5/8 of an inch. Shooting federal 525 bulk ammo. Tasco 3-9x 40 scope I have not shot more than 5 groups. By the time I am done my eyes need a break. It is a bone stock .22 with bulk ammo. I'm not expecting constant under 1/2 groups or. but it is weird how the groups get tighter as I shoot it.

Has any one else experienced this?

Assuming you've cleaned the rifle each time before shooting, it is typical for groups to tighten up after 10-50 shots. It takes an even coating of "fouling" in the bore to get the rifle to shoot consistently, some barrels need more "foulers", some need less. Try running some CCI Std Velocity, or any RWS and SK if you can find it, and shoot a couple "fouler" groups off paper before you go for your 5 tight groups.

I am one of those guys those does not clean my barrel. When I try the 5 group challenge it is at the end of the day. By this point I have put 300 to 400 rounds through the gun. I never shot any other ammo in this gun. just federal 525 value pack ammo.

I think your post says it all. Try some better ammo, cci mini mags, cci ar tac, fed sv, try 40 gr for best groups.
