Deceided to go with a Cooper .22 Hornet and can't decide between the Jackson Varminter with AAA upgrade and Fluted barrel, just like the one pictured below.

Or the Custom Classic:

Most shooting will be at gophers in the field off a Bipod. Considered the Varminter but like the looks of these two better.

Which one though? Would the Varminter models that I am not considering be better?

To me the Jackson Varminter with AAA upgrade and fluted barrel looks like an awesome gopher set up for bipod use, the Varminter models will probably shoot the same but are heavier. Since you are shooting a Hornet, barrel heating in the slightly lighter barrel shouldn't be a problem like if you were shooting a 22-250 so I can't see any real advantage to the Varminter model. Just my 2 cents worth....

the pic of the custom classic has upgraded wood but , even without, they look very much like it. Nicest bolt gun I own. Here's two of mine. Neither have any upgrdes. (22 lr and .223 AI)

Any excuse to show off the Coopers will do. Mine is a Varmint Model 22 in 25-06AI, easily my favorite rifle, my next Cooper will be a custom Classic in 20 Vartarg. Tough choice you put up but my vote would go for the Classic

mmmmmmm

lighter more figured stock then the stainless barrel,

darker wood blued barrel,

both are nice, but do these questions help

1. how many rounds are you going to shoot, a lot,

2. field use gun will get scrapes and then to resell or keep plugging gophers,

3. what is in stock for the gun show this coming weekend, mmm buy it now

4. which is cheaper because YOU WILL CUSTOM ORDER ONE FROM P R this year, right, with all the bells and whistles,

I like the SS barrel but that is just me,

Jefferson

X2 on the stainless barrel!

One day I will own a cooper in 20 vartarg.

Nothing beats a beautiful gun that shoots!

Bottom line is, you can't go wrong with any Cooper. Picking up about 25 more Monday and they will be at the Lloyd show(at least the ones thast aren't sold already! :) )

Nothing that is still for sale. A couple of spec orders. We just can't justify stocking them-its hard to keep a decent selection of righties let alone lefties which only sell about 1/10 what the rights do. I'd like to hav a few in stock but the chances of me having what the customer wants is slim? :(
Most of this shipment will be M52 Excalibres(our first) and classics. A few varminters and M22 classics.

Jefferson, I'll have a few big boxes of ammo on this shipment!! ;)

Thanks for all the reply's and thoughts.

I am kind of leaning toward the JRS with the Stainless Fluted Barrel :D

And Yes, I will be ordering it from PR and I plan on doing it sometime this year :)

The JRS with the upgrades I want is about the same price is the Custom Classic give or take $50.
