22 Hornet-K vs 22 Hornet

the brass wont be usable for reloading? doesnt that just fireform it? or is there too much case stretch when using factory loads in a K?

I have a K-Hornet, and I do love it. Brass is fine for reloading as a K-Hornet. I would never try to run a fireformed case back into a regular Hornet die, though. Hornet Brass is plenty thin in the neck shoulder area. I have some K-Hornet cases that are on their 5th reload, and doing fine. My BRNO ZKW 465 will shoot 5-shot groups of MOA or slightly less using factory Hornet ammo and fireforming brass. The K-Hornet brass when reloaded gets 5-shot groups that average about .6moa. I bought a Hornet a few years ago with the full intention of reaming it out to k-hornet specs. The factory Hornet is notorious for having extremely generous chambers, contributing to poor accuracy so cutting a new chamber is a good idea, and while you're at it, going with the 'k' seems a no-brainer. I discovered, though, that my factory Hornet was a 1/2" shooter, so I left it unadulterated and it's since become my favourite rifle.

Anyway, the whole concept of the k-hornet is that you can fire Hornet brass in it to form k-brass. How else would you make k-hornet brass, anyway?

Sort of depends on how the conversion was done. if it was a proper re-chamber where the barrel was removed, chamber shortened and recut then it is good to go with regular ammo the head spacing is on the rim anyway. Some conversion's, like the one on my handi rifle the reamer was just run into the existing chamber so it is not a guaranteed clean chamber so I just fireform first and then do minimal sizing after that.

K-hornet dies are not hard to come by you just need to figur out what shoulder angle you have 35 or 40. Hornet ammo is too pricy to buy alot of factory.
