Was going to spend some time at the bench yesterday. Decided 44&55 gr cast for my hornets. Prepped a few hundred brass dug out a sealed can of 680. Checked what I have loaded and found about 2000 rounds. Going to wait till after next gopher season to try some new loads. But I do have a start on prepped brass. Hard to remember what is loaded, but was sure I had more brass around.

2000 rounds is a good start. I too have a few hundred loaded up that need to be used. Some cast and some jacketed. Glad to see I’m not the only one a bit forgetful. Good thing we write loading info down.

I couldn’t find my Garand ammo last spring so decided to load up 500. Later that night I went searching for my 303 ammo. Under them was three 100 count boxes of Garand ammo. And 14 clips was on another shelf full ,so had more than I thought. Hard to keep track of stuff sometimes

I often load up lots of brass for each gun. I have loaded up hundreds of brass for 17 rem and 222. When I want to shoot ammo is ready. When I sell a rifle I end up with lots of reloads. Buyer sometimes want it sometime not.

It really depends on the accuracy of the rifle you're shooting, to firgure out how many reloads you should have on hand.

For milsurps, especially those with a lot of wear, it's not a bad idea to have a lot of loaded ammo on hand.

For newer, new in grease, sniper versions, etc. it's not a great practice to have hundreds or thousands of rounds pre loaded.

I fully understand the practice and idea behind having reliable loaded ammo in quantity on hand.

However, as you start shooting, the leade wear and the throat is extended by however much it's worn.

For average rifles, this bit of wear doesn't make much of a difference, but with very accurate firearms that bit of wear can bring on all kinds of group or POI issues as the wear increases.

The 22 Hornet is notorious for being "fussy" about little changes.

OP, you may notice your accuracy falling off as you use that ammo.

a j cave, You don't specify what you call great. No offence intended.

As long as you're happy with the results, then I agree, they're great.

The nice thing about the 22 Hornet is that throat erosion is minimal with most loads.

However, I find that Lil Gun powder seems to burn hotter than H110 or 2400.

lucky man.

i was gifted a whole bunch of brass and loaded rounds but they dont shoot well..... so i need a puller soon. but the zkw465 can hang about in the safe a little longer lol

Bear hunter, I’ve a Ruger #3 that is just under an inch at 100M. The other is a #1 that will do 1/2-3/4 at the same. Both are minute of gopher head. I took a big badger at 100 yds and it through it back out of the hole. Crushed its head. We had got 2 others with the 22, this was much better!
