22 Hornet

I have the same riffle only I had it converted to the K-Hornet. Still just shooting virgin 22 Hornet brass untill I get the 300 rounds fireformed and I am amazed at how accurate it is. I picked mine up from a member on here last winter. Can't wait to use it for jacks this winter.

Same again. Mine was rebarrelled and rechambered to to .22 K Hornet by Ellwood Epps several decades ago.

I have an M6 scout in 22hornet over 410. It is one of my favorite guns, Geoups about an inch at 50 yards. (good enough for an oddly looking survival gun)

I stood in a field and shot an entire box of 50 rounds at ground hogs that kept sticking up their hed to se what the noise was.

A bigger caliber, like 223 or 22-250 would have bothered the farmer 9very load) and the hogs probably would have kept theri head down.

My grouped terrible until I loaded something milder than the 'start load" . then it grouped around an inch. (A Brno like the one pictured.)

Ganderite, the one I mentioned above was the one I picked up from you. I had it re-barreled (my gun smith said the original had way to much of a gap from the chamber to where the riffling started and he just so happened to have an almost brand new barrel from a previous customers brno that went to a 17 Hornet) that probably had to do with some of the accuracy loads with the hotter charges. Now, fireforming my brass (factory Hornady loads) I am grouping less than 1" at 100 yards with it. Great little riffle and I am glad I picked it up from ya.

i had a browning micro hunter in 22 hornet topped it of with a 4-12 leupold and it was acurate enough to take gophers at 200 yards consistently and ample power to down coyotes to the same sold it to get something bigger loved the gun just not the clip

If you can find an old Brno, that's the way to go for me.
I know where one is and the guy actually told me,"When my dad dies I'll sell it to you"
That's a bad way to acquire a nice gun.

I love them old BRNO's.
My dad has an old BRNO Fox in 222. Sweet rifle except.......

How come nobody makes a set of rings that you don't have to lift your face off the stock to see through the scope?

Try a Garand type sniper Leather cheekpiece. They don't Bubba up your gun and look kinda attractive ( I think ) . Pacific Canvas & Leather has a good selection.
I made mine(sorry no pic's at this time) and use it on several different guns. It gives a nice cheekweld to run-of-the-mill Surplus rifles; I would imagine it would do the same for others that you are not satisfied with.

The Hornet has always been a favorite of mine, I have a Walther KKJ HO that thinks its a target rifle, fabulous shooter from the late 60's. I am considering a new Cooper in 22 K-Hornet as rechambering the Walther would destroy its collector value. The Hornet has been around a long time and with the new 35 gr loads is even better that ever, Brnos have been around for a while, but accuracy has not always been the greatest, neither have the Rugers set any accuracy records. Ruger did chamber their #1 in 22 Hornet as few years ago, and show up used on occasion, and they had a 26" barrel, re-barreled BSA Martini cadets were very popular at one time, and had a reputation for good accuracy. If I were shopping for a 22 Hornet and did not want to invest in a Cooper I would be watching for one of the older high quality Euro models(Walther, Sako, Krico, BSA, etc) as barrel life is very good with the Hornet and errosion/barrel wear is not a common problem. Browning also offered the Hornet in the 1885 low wall, and they were very accurate, mine in 243 shot 1/4" groups. The Hornet, the Bee and the Swift have always been at the top of my list of favorites.

Thought I'd throw in a picture of my Hornet, it's a Ruger 77/22 Stainless Laminate wearing a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 AO. Much fun on gophers out to 175 yards and beyond.

I have the sister of H4831's 22 Hornet. Beautiful firearm, I've not tested it out beyond approximately 100 yards, but the coyotes couldn't out run it. Flat shooting and consistantly accurate.

They do. I got a set from Del Selin, got low ones. Too low, found out when I got home, my old K6 wouldn't quite go on. 35 miles back to Del's for higher set, only this time, take the rifle AND the scope.

This thread is making me very sad:(

I really want a 22 Hornet to fill the void between .22 LR and .204 Ruger in my gopher arsenal but the economy tanking has made me put those plans on hold.

Unless I find a distraught widow willing to sell a used Hornet for below market value I am simply out of luck

What's the verdict on the ruger bolt action hornets? I wouldn't mind a hornet, but I really prefer stainless and I think they are the only ones offering stainless. Are the rugers a safe bet these days for accuracy?
