22 hornet

One factor in accurate loads for the standard hornet is to try and get a batch of cases with uniform rim thickness as it actually headspaces on the rim. Many hornet rifles that won't shoot consistently accurate groups will smarten right up if you get them reamed out to the K-hornet--because you can control the headspace with the shoulder of the case--usually case life and accuracy is much improved.

I got best results with Win 680.

Each rifle is different. Buy some 45 gr bullets, start low and work up. A nice quiet ground hog gun. Farmers don't get worried about the noise.

Hi, 5 gr is a lot of powder out of a 22 hornet case, What is your load? Thanks
 
I found that the Lee collet neck size die is a wonderful asset when loading the Hornet. Eliminates much of the finicky attention to detail when loading.
 
Holy resurrected thread, Batman- over 4 years! I no doubt subscribed to this thread because I have a venerable "Parkerrifled" large-frame Martini that was converted to .22 Hornet in the early '30s which I've not been able to get to shoot as well as it surely must be capable of. Haven't played with it for some time (and may not be doing so for a bit yet due to eyesight problems) but I did get a Sinclair neck-turning tool and .223 bullets (Sierra) so it's still "a work in progress"... along with all the others. :)
 
40gr vmax and Titegroup are my go-to for my Martini khornet though I haven't done as much with it as I'd like. Want to try some cheap bulk 55gr for plinking sometime too.

One thing I've wondered is if the Lee neck sizer collet die will work on the k... Anyone have any experience with this combination?

I use one of these now as well. I used the Horn 45 gr SPSX for years over 680 or 296. Then I switched to Lil Gun and the 35gr Vmax. Never looked back.
