.22 JW15 hiker(13"barrel) first impression(with pics) Now with range report pg2

I've looked everywhere-googled it-but I just can't find the ''Bushnell 22 4X varmint scope'' short-compact-it would be the perfect fit ....firesights like on the 10/22 ruger compact might be a good option

It would still require replacing the front sight base, and the rear sight. Plus you'd still have a really short sight radius.

Heres a pic with it's new simple leather sling, with a nice leather ammo pouch I picked up.

The NECG rimfire peep is nice as well but a bit pricey at around $100

Is the front sight blade a standard dovetail?

Nope it's integral to the base.
Which means the techsights replacement front won't work anyway.
I just need a rear peep and I'll thin out the front blade.

If you're still wanting to try some more ammo through it, give the Winchester 40gr T22 a shot...most of my bolt .22s love it. Canadian Tire should have it.

Is this the peep sight from NECG you were thinking of?

It looks like it might sit too high to allow you to use the original front sight. Is the front sight on the JW15 permanent? or would it be possible to replace it with something taller?

The front sight is a ramp that is removable. The blade within it is integral to the ramp, so no working around that.
Over the course of my research I've determined that no matter what peep I use, I'll have to replace the front sight ramp.

Also with the williams one, I'll have to inlet the stock to accomadate the slider.

This is becoming a bit of a hassle. I'm thinking of just thinning out the front and solving the peep situation when I come into some spare cash.
I mean 80$ for a williams FP-GR and then another 30 for a new front sight ramp assembly.
Then fiddle with front sight heights. Plus a stock inletting mod.
Maybe I'm building the perfect hiking gun but jeez

That's the one. It's a pretty solid piece and doesn't hang off the side.
A new front sight is pretty typical when changing to a peep.

I wonder if there is enough meat in the ramp to cut and file a dovetail?

One of the dealers has sets of 11mm rings for $9.99 a pair.

Thats a fairly cheap piece of aluminum already machined to clamp onto that 11mm rail.

A person with a mill could just cut the ring off and drill and bush the base of the ring and turn it into a non-adjustable peep sight.

If you were willing to go a little further to make one, why not mill it out a bit and make it windage adjustable by fitting an AR rear sight apperature into it?

How many people would buy something like this? I think that sales would be fairly reasonable given the popularity of this rifle in Canada right now. The idea sounds even better when you think that this would essentially be a BUIS for ANY CZ rimfire, or air rifle too....

$9.99 + the cost of two apperatures, screws, dials, detents, springs and pins... Whats that add up to? $20 in materials for 2 sights.... Whats the CNC time?

OK so I went to thin out the front sight today and when I went to unscrew the ramp, I discovered it clamps into a dovetail, by way of a seperate piece.

Anyway heres the pic.

I'm hoping that gives me an inexpensive front sight option.
Does anyone know if dovetails are standardized?

Also I had it out the other day again with the scope, but without removing the rear sight I could not get the scope far enough forward to get proper eye relief. Despite that I was getting pretty consistent 3/4inch groups at about 30yds. I think I just need to set the rifle up with a more appropriate scope setup to truly test it.

3/8" dovetail is pretty standard. Hopefully that's what you've got but the chinese seem to prefer odd sizes...

(the walls are 60 degrees. Depth .091 inches according to the web haven't measured mine)

Cool, I'm going to check if one from my lakefield fits, until I order a replacement.

I need one that is higher than the ramp assembly so I can use it with a williams peep sight.

Am I bad.

I dug up a cheap old rimfire scope I had in the basement for 10years and put it on. Now I think I might leave it this way until I have more cash to invest in the peep sight project.
The 3-7x20 Bushnell has a narrow field of view and not the clearest glass, but it clears the bolt handle and the rear sight, Eye relief is perfect.
Seems to have a pretty low line of sight but the front sights invisible. Also it's small and light.
And on 3x it's not to hard to find your target.

I love shooting Irons, in fact this will be only my second gun with a scope out of 20 (the other one being my .308 remington bolt.
But I don't want to pop down a hundred bucks on sights right now.

I'm cheaping out don't hate me.

The rear would work OK I think

But the front sight blade replacement won't work, because this ones blade is integral to the ramp.

Also they don't ship to Canada so it's kind of a moot point.
