Okay here is something a little different. Love to hear from any .22 K-Hornet reloaders out there? What can you tell / teach me as per your experience with this cartridge? Which powders performed the best? I`m interested in the best possible accuracy with near top velocity ( does not need to be absolute "top" vel. but near the top would suffice) with 35 - 40 grain bullets?
I have been reloading various cartridges for accuracy for the past 50 years but this is one I have never touched. Appreciate any and all feed-back but please no " this cartridge or caliber is better because .....) Thank you.

I use( Lil-gun) as much as I can get in the case. Excellent accuracy and velocity. Mine is a KE and I had to back down 1/2 grain of powder when using 224 bullets. Love this rifle It tells me when I'm not shooting well at the range.

Yeah, in all the research I`ve done it appears 90% feel that Lil`Gun is the answer for top velocity combined with excellent accuracy and with lower pressures no less ( that is strange) but that is what Lyman`s newest loading manual shows and it in fact says that Lil`Gun was the most accurate powder with 40 grain bullets. I plan on trying 40 grain Nosler Varmaggedons.

So BB what did you end up getting in a K Hornet? I have a Browning A Bolt in 22 Hornet and am using LG in it. Really pleased with the combo.

Did you give up on your quest for a 17 Hornet?

Not sure what the performance of regular hornet is but I'm getting 3000+ and the groups will spread to 1 inch when I'm having a bad day. I did find primers make a difference with these little cartridges best accuracy in mine was CCI small pistol. This is out of a ZKW 465

Sort of, I guess I got a little impatient. Anyway I thought about it somemore really hard and there were 3 things about the 17 Hornet that I saw as "Negatives" as compared to the 22 Hornet: 1) Very hard to get bullets for it, not much choice at all and very rarely in stock. 2) Damm bullets are really small and a b###h to handle / work with. 3) 17s foul up a lot faster and are harder to keep clean during prolonged gopher expeditions. Both burn about the same amount of powder so that is neither here nor there. Got a CZ American with rings, dies, shell-holder, 350 Nosler brass, Possum Hollow bore guide, couple boxes of bullets, bunch of cleaning stuff and a hard case all as one package deal at a hell of a price. I always have a few thousand .224 bullets on hand and figure the .224 40s will do better in the wind than a .17 with
25s. Plan on trying 40 Nosler Varmageddons with Lil`Gun, that ought to put the hurt on a gopher!

Yeah, 3000 fps or there abouts with a 40 grain is attainable according to some reloading manuals so that is what we will look at. I`ve got a couple of honest to god 1/4" guns and a 3/8" gun (if it`s not windy of course) so I`m not hung up on that too much, but I sort of consider Varmint guns "unworthey" if they can`t do 1/2", so we will see?
