I just got a box of 500 Winchester .22 and I notice that the bullets are not jacketed or plated in copper.

What is the downside of using this kind of ammo vs copper plated or jacketed .22 bullets? Additional fouling?

for my knowledge, is a brick of .22 == 500 rounds?

A brick can be anything from 400 to 525. It's just the name for a bulk pack. As far as I'm concerned plain lead is just as good as copper washed. They perform the same. I have shot 1500 rounds out of my 10/22 of american eagle solids and haven't had any fouling. Now get out there and give those gophers hell.

I have used those Win .22's and personaly found the federal bulk packs better. The Wins have a wax coating of some sort on the lead but it is dirtier than the copper wash you get with most other rounds.

I understand a brick of .22 to = 500 rds too.

I too found the Win's to be dirtier. Saw no difference in the fouling dept, but Fed's shot a lot cleaner, especially in a wheel gun.

+2 on a brick=500 rounds.

cool, thanks for the info. When you ppl say dirtier, do you mean powder residue or bullet residue in the barrel?

I paid 17.50$ + tax for 500. What is your brand and price?

Your local Canadian Tire & Wal*Mart should sell a single box of .22LR in quantities of 500 or 525 for only $14+tx.

I prefer uncoated Federal's over Win's or remington. A bulk pack of Feds/Wins and Remingtons have been on sale at the sports stores for as low as $13.99/box. They all seem to make a wheel gun real dirty at the barrel breach after a couple hundred rounds, especially a stainless one. But thats from the powder burn not the lead/copper fouling.

I had problem with my last box of Win super X. I got a misfire every 4-5 round. The previous box was better but I still had a lot of misfire.
I switched to Federal and never had a misfire for the last 2 box.

Funny that you mention that. I have had no problems with Feds or Remingtons. I bought a box of CCI green tags and had not only a few jams in my Buckmark, but also a couple of misfires.

This happened to me too with my last box of Super X ($15 at Cambodian Tire). I also had a couple squib loads  And one that just plooped out the end of the barrel with a big puff of grey smoke, I could actually see the bullet drop to the ground about 15 feet in front of me. I did find them to be dirty as well, from a powder residue perspective and just from handling them, my fingers and thumbs were black!! Never again will I buy them. My .22 is much more accurate with copper washed round-nose CCI's anyway, didn't like hollowpoints at all, so no loss.

I was also under the impression that a brick of rimfire was 500 rounds, but it's not written in stone, if someone handed me a 425 pack and called it a brick I wouldn't call 'em a liar :D

The cleanest burning ammo I've used is CCI Stingers and Velocitors. Both group better than Gold Medal Match, Eley 10x, Eley Practice, and both Winchester and Federal bulk. My last brick of Stingers was $58 (taxes in).

On the range I have had several different 22 guns get very badly leaded barrels using the Wildcat ammo. Their Power Point seems to minimize it with the copper plating.
