.22 Lever but what one ?.

I really like my Henry .22 Frontier, very nice rifle.
It was kind of stiff out of the box, after maybe, 150 rounds, I took it apart completely, oiled the lever, the bolt, and a few other moving parts.
The action is so light, and smooth, a baby could do it.

I have a Browning but its been at the gunsmiths for the past 12 years. He finally came clean this year and told me he lost the bolt and a few other parts in his shop. He will have to replace the parts if he lives that long.

When buying a firearm I always lean to the "better" brands....there is a reason they have been around so long in constant production. Nothing against the henry stuff but... I would highly recommend either the 9422 win, any of the 39 series marlin ( if you can find one ) or the browning . the browning is the fastest in my opinion, the super short lever throw is nice for fast plinking and Ive always liked browning sights. I think the marlin is the best looking ( again my humble opinion) I have an original 1897 predecessor to the 39a,m,t, etc. and the 9422 is prob the most reliable / best made. I think you can find all 3 of these for around your budget $400. good luck !

I think maybe Albayo is the gunsmith he is referring too.......:D

I like them all in this order,

Stock 9422 and a shortened (18" barrel) 39 tie for first,
followed by the regular length 39 and then the Bl-22.

I prefer the pistolgrips over the straight grip for feel.
I used to think they were less ascetic but the feel won me over......

I have had a bl-22 for about 30+ years and would never part with it. I remember going out plinking with a friend many years ago who had a ruger 10-22 and we were trading shots at a quart oil can keeping it bouncing and after ten shots he was out of ammo and i just kept shooting. I was just as fast as his semi auto and his question said it all (how many f***n bulits does that thing hold) lol.

I've had mine new since 1970. I've replaced one firing pin for 40 bucks inclusive of labor. Other than that, I've never had a misfire in over a hundred thousand rounds and it still shoots straighter than most guns made today.

Everyone's got wonderful suggestions.

To keep with your original question...something for under $400.

I own all the models mentioned on this thread....I would have to recommend the Henry Frontier first choice or a used golden boy.

everything else is above your budget unless you find a deal on EE like the BL-22 you mentioned...that's a good deal.

I can say that a BL-22 has it's good and bad points.

Trigger, lever and the short stroke all work nicely and is very reliable...but complicated to take apart and service.

I have a Henry H001, bought new from Lebaron recently. It loves CCI Blazer and prints 3/4" groups at fifty yards with a small scope, but I just mounted a Williams Peep and built up the front sight. Big silly grin..!

Overall I am very happy and reassured in that should anything happen, Henry has excellent customer service.
Did I want a Marlin 39A or BL22? Of course! But I feel that for several hundred dollars lessI did just fine..

Go with the BL22. They are great little guns. Lite and nice to handle/ operate. I have had one for a while and really like it. Had one other pass through my hands but didn't need two so traded it away.
