I know Marlin's 39A has a 24 inch barrel (and I already own one) but does anyone else make a bolt action with a 24" or longer barrel.

I'm not sure of the exact measurement anymore, but I believe my Cooey Model 78 is somewhere near 26 inches.

The CZ lux and ultra lux have plus 24" barrels.

So they do. I guess I missed them because I didn't want to break the bank getting another 22. Does any other manufacturer still make this length of barrel. 300 dollars is about as high as I want to go.

I think an advantage of having a longer barrel is that every inch past 14" is actually slowing down the bullet before it leaves the barrel. When shooting standard velocity ammo this helps to ensure the bullet will not go transonic yielding greater accuracy. Also when using open sights the length helps with sighting radius obviously.

Many of the old Mossberg bolt actions with the aperture rear sights (146B, 46B-B, 146B-A) have 26" barrels. I have extra ones if interested.

No intention to tease... started to collect old Mossbergs and have acquired more than the safe holds. Can't afford another safe!! No heavy barrel models and some are grooved for scope mounting. Haven't advertised in EE yet... have to decide what to keep. Initially I just wanted to share that the old Mossbergs have the longer barrels and are often over looked as great shooters.

My grandfather had one a few years back. I will never overlook an old Mossberg. Those will make you shoot well.

Bingo!

Especially in colder weather...
