.22 lr ammo for resetting target?

Hey CGN, I recently purchased a champion .22 resetting target, after assembling I read in the instructions that they recommend using only round nose ammo stating that hollow point ammo will cause more ricochets? I've googled around and pretty much sounds like all .22 rounds are kind of prone to ricochet. My question is would it be safe to use hollow point or should I be getting some round nose?

This is just my personal opinion, but I'd use whatever you had on hand. HP or RN, when shooting at steel some will ricochet. Just make sure you are playing safe!
 
Just another warning to cover their arse Id think.

I have the same sort of thing I bought from princess auto, and haven't had any issues with any ammo types.
 
I have 4 of them plus a shooting tree and a torso taget.
Youd be shocked at the splatter and the force of it.
I personally use hp but I see more splatter with them.
 
Once I built a cage roughly a cubic yard and covered it with brown paper to show what happens after 22 rounds hit metallic silhouette targets.
There were no ricochets recorded. The bullets broke up so completely that the paper was never pierced.
As had been explained to me, the downward arc at the moment of impact does not tend to ricochet. Now I never hit the edge during the test.
The only evidence of remaining lead was the small disc perhaps 0.20" in diameter and 0.04 thick and the rest reduced to dust.
Regardless, the member requiring proof still cast the lone dissenting vote.
That being said, the various steel targets set in any number of positions so the angle when deflected could be more inclined to ricochet but to say HP's are more prone that solids is questionable.
