22 lr distance

What ammo, scope (?) and rifle please. What kind of accuracy?

Bruno model 2 3x9 bushnell american eagle LR 300meters at a 36 inch gong I could hit it 5 for 5 of the bench and at least 3 out of 5 of hand. On a bright morning I could tell you if it was a hit or a miss before the sound of the hit traveled back.I could see a streak above the gong through my scope and if it was good left and right it usualy was a hit .There was a the branch about 12 feet a bove the gong I would put the x hairs level with it ,the hard part was keeping the gong inline near the bottom of the scope. I kept the scope on 6 power. It was pretty neat. there was a 24 inch gong there as well but it was thicker and harder to hear if you hit it,( not to mention harder to hit as well)

I consider 70-80 yds. the 'practical' limit for .22lr, but as posted here, people exceed this quite bit.

Sighted at 50 yds, you need 4"-5" of hold over for targets at 100 yds. Further out than that is more art than science.

and..CCI Stingers don't shoot well enough from my gun to bother using them.

Try shooting standard velocity ammo through an 8" Krinker Plinker at a 300m target. Eventually you'll be aiming up so high, the shot starts to fall shorter, not longer

With calm winds...

3 rounds through one hole at 100 yards aimed 5 mils down...
10 rounds through one hole at 50 yards, point of aim...
Will hit gopher-sized targets consistently at 250 yards with scope adjustements maxed out...

BR silhouette now goes to 200yds on rams. You got to be very good at reading conditions.

Mil dot reticles would be very helpful for windage.

Geepers! I though 100 yards was hard enough.
I agree on the mil dot reticules. I borrowed one a few months back, and didn't want to give it back. A very handy item.

I just put one on my 10/22 works great at long range. Haven't tried it at paper past 100 yards but it hits my little silhouettes at 150 dam consistanly

I was shooting at a NRA silouet competition and 100mt was the farthest out. fair drop in ammo at that range.

Shooting the 22LR at 200 yds is the equivalent of shooting a .303 at 1200 yds.

shooting 22lr at approx 200yrds is the equivalent of shooting a 308 at 1000 yrds, and that is what draws me to shooting 22 at extended ranges. I am able to practice my wind reading skills with a 22 at 200 knowing that the same wind values will cross over when I shoot 308 at 1000. Now depending on the caliber like the 6.5/284 you can shorten the distance to mimic the wind values needed. Other pluses my 22 equals the accuracy of my 308 with the high end ammo.
2) I can practice position shooting and instantly know if I have shot a perfect shot. With such little recoil I can see the affects I have on the rifle such as trigger control, ‘squeezing the stock, cheek weld, proper breathing, sight alignment and follow through.
3) I can study the effects of mirage as it relates to wind speed, and, practice shooting in mirage knowing that I will have a better understanding of were the bullet lands when faced with similar conditions during competition. And I keep the costs low.
4) I don’t have to worry about barrel life with a 22.
5) there are only a few plays were you can shoot 1000 yards were as tehre a numerous place and private ranges were you can shoot at 200 yards

pretty well all formal competition is at 50 yds or meters,fun shoots reach out from there.you hear of all kinds of wonderfull accomplishments at huge distances but it mostly boils down to what you can do at 50 yds. more than once

Shooting at 200yrds is uber dangerous. Don't even try it. The next thing you know you will be buying a centerfire and shooting at 400yrds.

What's the optimum distance to line up a .22LR anyway to make the best use of the trajectory? 40 yards isn't it? Given that then how many feet high would you have to aim over the target at 200 yards? Anyone try it yet? Next time I go to the range which will be either today or next week I'll find out once and for all if someone else doesn't do so first.
