.22 lr lever actions, educate me

I'm looking to pick up a good quality .22 lr lever action. I know almost nothing about them.

What brands/models should I look for? Money is not really an issue, I want to buy something that is good and will last.

Get a Winchester 9422 if you can find one.

Browning BLR is quite nice.Try out as many as you can for fit,and for you personal style.Winchester also has nice ones.Remember,as per usual,you pay for what you get.

9422s have gone way up in price, but they are what I would purchase if I wanted a lever action 22lr.

X2 on the BLR22 for a new one. An older marlin 39 or win 9422 are great if you can ind a nice one.

If you've got the cash a nice older Marlin 39a is hard to beat. That being said, I have nothing but good things to say about my Henry Frontier.

Another vote here for older Marlin's and Henry rifles. 9422'S are nice too, but the prices are getting pretty high on those.

Since it is impossible to buy the Norinco except on the used market at a jacked up price you have to buy the better brands anyways.

There's a Browning lever on Rimfires E.E.@ $550, and it's a beaut.

Henry's work well and are good value, but don't compare to a Browning.

I've had a Browning BLR 22 lever for 35 years. It has a bazillion rounds through it, has never jammed, and the only repair I've ever done was a warn out firing pin.

i have a 9422 and love it.
you should be able to get 0ne for 500 bucks or so.
personaly i would stay away from henry anything with plastic parts just seems like junk to me.

i have the 9422 and love it. takes down into two peices with one bolt, accuarate, never had any reliability problems. capacity 21 +1 shorts, or 15+ 1 .22lr. bought mine used at a gunshow.

Marlin Golden 39A

IMHO a much better rifle than the Winchester or Browning lever action .22's.

9422 is one of the best lever's winchester made.
Older Marlin's are nice too.

For new you've got the Browning which while nice, (the lever throw is very short) it is a bit on the small side with a heavier trigger that is hard to improve.

The other new option is a Henry and while I haven't shot one looking at them I'd go with the frontier model with the octagon barrel and better sights.

There are some other ones floating around from Italy,Germany and China but those would have to be a smoking deal with a chance to try them out or at least handle it in person!

If you see a nice 9422 for around $500 I'd say go for it! Even a real nice one in mint shape for over $500 will be a good buy in the long run.
I bought a used one that has a fair bit of honest wear and it shoots great with a super smooth action.....think I paid around $350 shipped but that was a few years back.

I don't know what a new Marlin costs but I think I'd rather buy an older one based on quality control stories of late from Marlin post Remington.

A nice used 39 will probably be pushing $500 these days as well and like the Winchester should hold that value nicely.

I would suggest the Marlin 57 levermatic. I picked one up off the EE a couple of years ago and it comes to the range with me nearly every time. I have had no problems with it at all. It's a keeper for sure.

Marlin 39, Winchester 9422, Henry, Browning bl22. In that order. I have owned them all and still can't figure out why the Browning has such a large following.

The very clean 9422s are usually going for over $600, the not so clean ones do turn up for $500 now and then.
