.22 lr lever actions, educate me

Well I started all this by puting the 9422 at the bottom of the list!
But hey, there were only four. One and two position were taken, so what went three and four?
My Henry had the smoothest action of any lever gun I have ever used. I put a scope on it and tested ammunition at 50 yards. That rifle shot like a bolt action target rifle!
Absolutely no way was I going to put that rifle on the bottom of the desireable list. I felt bad enough rating it below the Japanese Browning levers!
Everyone here can make up their own list, of the four rifles discussed.

My Henry is a good little rifle, i don't like the front end tube loading system but other than that It's a good gun for the price.

Used,
For new you've got the Browning which while nice, (the lever throw is very short) it is a bit on the small side with a heavier trigger that is hard to improve.

I second the size issue can be a bit small but the trigger is more of a recent production issue. I have a mid 70's BL22 that I purchased as new in box last year with a 3lb trigger that is smooth as can be.

the BL22 has done very well for me, the only problem is now that I shoot Marlin and Winchester levers often the short throw on the Browning takes a few rounds to readjust to.

Marlin 39A, longest continuously produced firearm in N.A. (in the world maybe).
I have one and it's a great rifle. :)

I owned a BLR-22 years ago and my brother ####ed it up... short stroked it, bent a cog in the action and wrecked it.

I think a model 9422 would be A-OK also.

I see no flies on the Henry either...

My Mossberg 464 is stunningly accurate and reasonably smooth, very un-Mossberglike. It has a dovetailed receiver if you're into scopes.

I also have each manufacture,I prefer the browning,in my case. Try them out for yourself and make up your own mind. The Winchester may be the better of your guns.

That's the trouble with small samples. My Browning let me down twice, once when the ejector broke off and the second to change out the mainspring. The trigger is poor on the Browning and there isn't much that can be done with it.

My Winchester never missed a beat, shoots better than my Browning, and has a better trigger.

With my samples anyone would have come to the same conclusion.

I currently have a 9422 that my wife liked so much it became "her" rifle. Smooth and accurate. I have had a Browning and a Marlin too and sold them. I regret selling the Browning but the Marlin had issues-lever droop. Had a Henry Golden Boy for a while too but the soft receiver weirded me out and the brass is a coating that apparently cannot be repaired. Scope mount is too goofy for me. I liked all of them for one reason or another but the 9422 is the only lever 22 I have except for my BSA Martini action single shot lever. They all work and are all pretty accurate. Buy one-you can always sell it if you dont like it; The chicks dig levers. Easy way to get a wife or GF shooting if you dont have a pistol yet.
