22 LR on sale at Cambodian Tire.

When I was a kid, Aguila was pretty much the cheapest crap you could by. We used it for rabbits and grouse and it worked ok. Some batches were very heavily waxed and jammed up the little semi-auto pretty quick. Now they are considered quality ammo? I prefer CCI.

Actually that old yellow box Aguilla from the 70s-80s was pretty accurate ammo. They were not intended for semis with that wax coating, but you will note that much expensive quality rimfire ammo also has lube coating like that. The old Aguilla actually performed very well in a bolt action in terms of accuracy back then.

I purchased 5k rounds of std vel from a site sponsor on sale back in 2016 along with 5k rounds of subsonic at the same time. I find it has pretty decent accuracy in my bolt rifles for the price and no failure to fire either like other ammo in the same price range. It is also decent to shoot for practice in the target semi pistols and the charges seem to be quite consistent compared to other ammo in that price range without spending a fortune.

I also have a "quantity" of CCI std vel for use in my target pistols. I will tell you that the heavily lubed S&B std vel actually works better in a couple of my target pistols. Must lube the feed ramp to the chamber as dry bullet ammo seems to snag on the feed ramp.

I must be real old. I bought my first case of 5000 .22LR standard velocity target ammo for $175.00 back in 1986. Used it all up in less than a year. I thought it was getting bad when a bulk pack of Federal hollow points went up to $17.50 back in the early 2000s. My income may have doubled since the 80s but the ammo seems to have almost quadrupled in price...

The cheapest I’ve ever bought 22lr was 2005-2007. The local CO-OP would have federal and Winchester 555’s on sale for $13.00. It just so happened that for those 3 years I never had to buy much. We had a tremendous gopher plague (not even exaggerating a little) here, so I spent nearly every spare minute shooting ammo supplied by my father in-law on his farm. One summer I put 100,000 rounds through a 10/22.

Canadian Tire, AKA Crappy Trash.

I have shot the Aguila and it has proven fairly accurate in my two rifles, however it does not cycle the 10/22 100% of the time. Generally 10% fail to eject properly. Having said that I generally shoot CCI, they typically shoot with more accuracy and reliability for me.
