.22 LR Revolver Options

S&W 617 is without a doubt the best new production rimfire revolver. Unfortunately, it's a bit out of your price range (they sell for about $800-900). Colt Diamondback is another great .22LR revolver. They are no longer in production but you can get a good used one for about $600.

I wouldn't buy a Taurus for two reasons. First of all, if something breaks, it will be next to impossible to get parts. And second, Taurus’ quality control is somewhat inconsistent.

A lower priced revolver that is often overlooked is the High Standard Sentinel or Double Nine. These are good shooters, and should be under $200.

Save a little while longer and get a S&W 617. I am truly impressed with it. Yeah, it's a lot of money but if I owned one, it'd be one gun that I'd never sell. Other than that, as recommended by others here, a S&W 17, K22 or even a Colt Diamondback. I own a Diamondback and, although, it's a nice gun it doesn't shoot as well as some of the S&W .22 revolvers I've shot. I can't comment on the Ruger Single Six's as I haven't shot one....Good luck in your 'hunt' and remember, the hunt is half the fun........:D

Do not waste your time with a single action ruger... I've got several for big bore, but .22 youre gonna want a double action. You'll burn through ammo and hate reloading it... too slow. I've got a sentinel that was mentioned before... if you can find an old sentinel by high standard get it. More accurate than most target pistols, light, 9 rounds... very heavy DA trigger, but sweeeeeeetest crisp predictable single action pull I've ever felt. I shoot mine all the time. Too much fun.
I know a guy with a SW... much higher quality, swears by it.

Yes indeed, get a used Model 17 or used 617, (if you find one used), but with a 6 " barrel.
This revolver outshot any 22 Target pistol I know of, and I fired many,
Use with Remington 40 gr Target load and Rem 40 gr Hi-Vel. round for about 1,5 -to 1.6o" group at 25 yards consistently. I never had it so good.!!
If there are better shooting .22 handguns, I would like to know !

The 617 should be your first choice if you can find one used in your price range.
Single actions are great, and I would highly recomend a Ruger convertable!
Failing all the above, I happen to have a recently acquired Taurus Tracker that I might part with for the right price!! :D

I bought this for my Son about 15-18yrs ago... Nice revolver, and Crimson Trace makes a set of Lasergrips for it if you want to do some "serious" plinking..

Best Wishes,
