Hello there everyone I am looking at potentially buying a 22lr for shooting at the range. I am maxed out there at 300yards and id like to reach out there and shoot the gongs out there. What should I get for a Rifle. I already have a scope just been debating on a rifle wanting some others opinions. Any and all advice is appreciated!

300 yards with a .22 RF?

Are you an ant looking to move a rubber tree? ;)

What you wish to try is not a beginners move nor is the resultant equipment what one would call entry level.

Maybe try hooking up with seasoned shooter and try your luck at 1/10 the distance and see for yourself that the intended game is much more difficult than you could imagine.

Need a bit more info to streamline things....

What shooting experience do you currently have?
Are you just looking to occasionally hit the gongs at 300 for s h i t s and giggles or do you want to learn long distance shooting skills?
What's your budget for the rifle and more importantly what's your budget for ammo?
What's the scope (model, magnification) you already have and intend to use?

Savage Mark II TRR-SR - .22LR, 22" or a cz457??( i think is called) those are also really good....

This is a good setup, but the ammo will dictate what its capable of.... Better working out to 100 first as far as long range, then see later on how it might be at 300... youll also need a seriously good spotting scope and spotter to at least see where your shots are to dial in properly... you wont mostlikely be able to do yourself...

300 yards is achievable with many rifles, depending on your budget and the degree of accuracy and consistency you are hoping for. I started shooting 300 yards with a Savage Mk II with a heavy barrel that I dropped into a Boyd’s Pro Varmint stock. CZ-457 comes in several variants that would be suitable. I am a fan of the CZ-457 MDT XRS, but the LRP, Varmint and other would work.

Your choice of scope and rail will be a bigger factor to get the required amount of elevation. This is even more challenging if you still want to be able to zero your rifle at short range.

Where are you located?
Mountain View Rimfire Precision trigger pullers on facebook.

Have a look
If you want to come and see some cz457's, some custom .. all of us can hit the big gong at 300 yards

Ruger bolt action
some come with a 20 or 30 moa rail installed, you will need that plus more
We put a 8" circular saw blade at 300 for s&g's, easy to hear the ring for a hit

My 457 MTR shoots the gongs at 320m often. Finding the right ammo for whatever rifle you decide on is key.

You don't have to totally break the bank. I would suggest whatever Tikka, CZ, Bergara fits your budget.

Google ClayneB
He was a chap awn’ear that was shewt’in his 22’s waaaaaay owt thar.

Try even here in the search bar.
Maybe his videos are still around?

for the budget minded.

Tikka T1x.
Arken EPL-4 6-24x (if your optic does not suffice)

Skill and ammo selection will be your determining factor for a long time. Beyond this $1500 (retail prices) you will spend infinitely more money for minimal gain in performance.

Also, expect ammo to be $.50 - $1 a shot.

I also have a CZ 457 and shoot regularly at gongs at 300m using cheap and plentiful CCI standard.

It is a lot of fun. I can shoot, rack the bolt and have a new round ready to go before I hear the report from the steel!

I definitely disagree.
300 yards is very attainable with a 22LR.
Not your average 10/22 maybe but any decent bolt action and optic (20-30moa cant helps) and u shud be able to have plenty of fun at 300 yards.

22LR is almost ALL about the ammo.
Federal blue box, Winchester wildcat, American Eagle, and the like are not what you want here.

Eley, RWS, SK, and Lapua are what you are looking for. Preferably subsonic.
Norma Tac-22 (made by RWS) is pretty good for the price too.

Do NOT be intimidated or allow anyone to dissuade you.

My 7 year old shoots his 22 to 300 routinely.

I use CZ457’s but they are in my bad books these days for gun grab reasons.

Folks like the Tikka 1x and I would lean towards the Springfield 2020 if i was to get another today. Even. Savage Mark II will get u out there.

Have fun!!!
