I have used them in the past, they are pretty much useless unless you are really close. Good for mice or rats if close, also used them for shooting snakes close.

A barn swallow? It was diving at you because you were close to it's nest. They eat black flies and mosquitos. Why anyone would shoot such a cute and awesome flyer is beyond me.

Yes, that's correct, Barn Swallow. Being attacked by 1 overly aggressive bird in my yard when I was no where's near it's nest was a problem so I took care of it. They are very beneficial birds to control insects as mentioned in the summer time and still are.

I've tried them. Ok for mice around pallets in the barn but I moved on to the 9mm flobert. Much more useful and still fairly quiet with the plus side of larger shot. 1/4 oz of #10 or #8 for the small things. #6 moves it up to squirrels and bunnies

I tried some out on barn rats back in the 70's and found them to be woefully inadequate for the task unless the rats were just in front of my feet.
Even then the effect on the buggers was less than desired. I went back to my trusty Slavia 620 .177 airgun right quick after that without worries.
