I have both, an HW95 in .22 cal shooting in the low 800s and a couple of 10/22's and other .22s.
The air rifle is nice for sitting outside for some casual plinking without all the noise. For pests think more like grackles and squirells.
I really like the quality and mechanics of these rifles. Im also really into Weihrach air pistols for the same reasons and are also a real joy for me to shoot around the cottage. If you have a lot of neighbours but have space to shoot airguns may be your thing.
On the other hand, 22s serve a purpose for plinking and are better for larger pest control. Mind you make damn sure whats a long ways from that black bird or coon in a tree your shooting. If you were to get a quality air rifle i dont think you will be let down, save your cash though you will probably not appreciate a cheap one as much.
From your question im guessing your going that route.
Final tip if you want to go PCP make sure you can get a tank filled somwhere nearby up to 4000 psi the dive shops around here will only fill for folks with dive certificates, a friend of mine just found that out.
Oh and if you were wondering i bring my airguns to the range and nobody laughs at me....lol
