.22 lr vs .22 high power air rifle, which to buy?

a few hundred yards with an air rifle? Is that realistic?

If one is shooting upwards- yes. Check out some ballistic programs- the ballistics of airgun pellets are somewhat like medium shotgun shot (#4 or so). The effective range of an air rifle is <50yds in my opinion but pellets go much further than that. Nowhere near the distance of a .22LR though...

The Colibri shells are awesome.
I haven't touched my air rifles in forever. I always go with rimfires.
High quality pellets are actually the same price as 22lr

I've wanted an air force condor but have never bought one because my 22lr are much more versatile

High quality pellets in .22 are way under $20 for 500... I'm not old enough to remember buying bricks of .22lr for under $20. Airgun ammo is much cheaper!

Gamo pba 22 cal pellets I use are $23 for a pack of 100 pellets.
Gamo rocket pellets are $13 per 100
Poly mags are $18 per 200

Cci mini mags are $11.99/100
Cci Stingers $8.99/50

Not everyone shoots cheap crap from their air guns.
Premium ammo brings premium prices not matter what you shoot

Get into big bore air guns and the cost goes up as well

Just going to throw this out there and then run for cover......

When you are trying to abbreviate "you are", it's "you're", not "your". Just sayin'....

There should have been some premium airgun ammo listed in this post, no? :bangHead:
Alloy pellets are gimmicks, while the Gamo Rockets don't have the same accuracy as good quality round head pellets from JSB or H&N. Poly mags may be better than the Rockets, but they won't win any accuracy contests, either.

If you want a lower powered air rifle the AA 410/510 is a nice choice and because of the lower power it's pretty quiet.

If you want a real hammer a Airforce Condor in .25 just crushes the other low powered PCP air rifles in brute strength.

The Condor can be configured in .177, .20, .22, .25, .257, .357/9mm, and .50. The .25 can go over 70 grain slugs.

They are expensive but are not safe queens they are tools for taking up to Coyote sized pests.

Any airgun less the 50 ft lbs of energy will be very questionable on a Raccoon, either use a .22 rimfire of a Condor as the other PCP air rifles just will fall flat when it comes to power.

Our .25 Condors which will reach 150 yards and burn thru a gopher with ease try that with a .22 PCP that is under 50 ft lbs..............

A large raccoon is freaking hard to kill with 22 LR.
Took a 30 pounder once and it took three shots, as it is pretty hard to find the spine under lots of fur when it's moving around.
Finally, Velocitor number 3 in the right spot did the dirty deed.

I'm not saying air guns aren't any good. I've wanted a condor for a while. However for me a rimfire works better.
I'm keeping my set of Benjamin sheriden pump up air rifles 177-20-22 but they won't see much use at all. Around the cabin I use Colibri 22 rimfire rounds and know one knows I'm even shooting. Cci quiets for when I want to plink without the noise and they're perfect for squirrel hunting. High velocity for pest control and general plinking. It just works for me. I have nothing against air rifles and have used them on most small game Ontario has even fox. With a rimfire I get a repeater that requires nothing more than a pocket full of ammo for a day of plinking. That is something I can't do with a pcp air rifle

Btw. Those condors look bad ass ###y!

Totally agree, I have 4 .22 rimfires, my Condor is for fun and when I want to play mini 50 Sniper. :)

Yeah the Condors get lots of attention when we all get together. :)
