I too had a Ithaca 49 in .22 mag.It was very accurate for open sights but then my eyes were 30+ years younger. I did have extraction problems after about 10 rounds and then you had to pop out the empties with a pocket knife. How about your 49?...
 
One of the best shooting 22 Mags i have ever owned and still do own for that matter is a

Marlin 1894-M lever action.

I have owned quite a few over the years.Lever's, bolt's, semi's.I had a Laminate 597 bull barrel that was pretty good also.Not close to the 1894-M ...but pretty darn good none the less.

Unlike some other people's experiance's on here .The worst one's i have ever owned accuracy wise were Winchester 94/22M's.love the look and feel of them so much that i kept trading into and buying them in hopes of finding one that shot really well.I think i have owned somewhere around 4 or 5.

However i believe only one of them i ever owned shot anywhere near what i thought was decent and it wasen't great..All were Scoped.

I will probably not buy another unless it is a really great buy.Never know though i am a gunnut.

From the people on here saying how good their's shoot it sounds like i might have been just plain unlucky with the one's i got.

My 49 has no problem extracting.It is a single shoot falling block action.
I know that some of the model 49R repeaters had problems with feeding and extracting. That is why after about 3-4 years Ihaca dropped the 49 and started
selling the Erma West German made model 72 a far better action.So much so that now the model 72 is made by Henry Repeating Arms.
Is your's a 49 or a 49R ?

My CZ452 Lux 22WMR is at least as accurate as my heavy barreled Marlin .17HMR, and I thought it was one of the most accurate little guns I ever shot. The CZ will hold it's own against almost anything at any price - for the money, you'd have to spend a pile more to match it. Forget anything else at the same price and it's a real gun, real extractors, great trigger and a really nice piece of walnut to boot!
