whats the best old single shot bolt .22 rifle that can be converted to .22 mag.
i heard the old cooeys are strong enough to handle this conversion is that so?
are there any others??...i would like a single shot 22 mag beater that i can carry in the bottom of my canoe...i say beater but it needs to be fairly accurate as well.........Dan........

Why bother trying to convert a single shot .22 to 22 mag? Seems like a lot of trouble when good used 22 mags are fairly easy to find.

There are new ones that won't break the bank either.

H&R makes a varmint break breach with laminate and a heavy barrel for $200
They tend to be quit accurate at a fairly cheap price.

MArlin makes a model 25 in 22mag for $220 as well.

i already have a h&r break open with a varmint scope on it but its much to nice to have banging around in a canoe....i know a gunsmith who will convert a cooey for 80 bucks...so like i say just wondering what other models lend themselves easily to this conversion...unless someone has a decent good shooting beater for sale in the 150.00 or less range??..Dan......

River rat, if you can find an older H&R sinlge shot 22 bolt action, they have some extra metal. They lend themselves well to this magnum conversion and are cheap in price generally.
It was not "ultra" accurate though, as some 22 Lr chambered rifles are, so I let it go.

I had one once, I cannot for the life of me remember the original model #!

I've never seen a conversion that shoots well.
Pickup a cheap Mossberg Chuckster.
I've got a couple, I'd sell one cheap.
For a canoe gun, you'd probably want to shorten the barrel.

Get a Norinco BRNO knockoff-I picked one up from SIR years ago for about $100-shoots well, too even if the finish isn't anything to write home about, but sometimes you want a utilty rifle
