Precisely. The price is out. So, to use the Norinco T97 analogy, dealers can sell a handful of overpriced units, or 350 at a reasonable price. A decision has to be made. But happydude can pay more if he feels obliged.

Actually Glocks are now selling for under $650.00 in Canada for the more popular models! Some places you can get them even cheaper or free shipping.

I'd still like to see these rifles in Canada at a reasonable price though. Look like lots of fun!

Canadians also pay more for cars, but it doesn't make it right or tolerable. And since this is not a necessity, unlike a car, it is hard to justify a large price. For what? To impress your Internet friends? No thanks. But, for a reasonable price, it looks like a decent plinker. In any case, they can make plenty of money selling accessories.

On Point also has Glock 17's for $500 and HK USP 45's for $750. Those guns go for around $800-$900 and $1000-1150 here.

Same guns, imported from Europe (not sure on the Glocks though), should be the same price but aren't.
Canadian retailers don't get the guns from the same place US retailers do...

Hell I hate this thread. 45 pages without a peep. Build up the anticipation and "do us a favor" by bringing them in? Yeah-NO. We even have an army of indoctrinated lining up to pay more than they have to.

Mind you, studies have shown that is a Canadianism. By paying more for things, Canadians actually feel better about themselves. It's a way to showcase their prosperity.

Bottom line is this is like a dressed up 10/22.

Then either buy one stateside and import it or dress up your 10/22. TSE has already said that they're working on it and the manufacturer lists an importer.

Speaking for myself, I'm willing to shell out $700 for this rifle not to impress internet friends but because my 10/22 is boring, spending time and money to mod my 10/22 doesn't appeal, I want a .22 plinker, and I want something that looks like a black rifle but is cheap to shoot and is non-restricted.

I'll worry about the price once it's confirmed they are non-restricted. No way will I buy it if it's restricted though, it's enough bull#### for the handguns, I don't need my .22 to be restricted also...

The custom 10/22 I wanted to build earlier this summer would've cost me approximately 850$: even if this was nothing more than a dressed up 10/22, the looks would still sell it for me.

An MP5-looking rimfire rifle? F*ckin' A.

I want one of these front grips on it:

And something like one of these on it:

And... I'm sure I can think of something else too.

Well, speaking like that has a tendancy to firmly suggest the price will be that. Why not keep it affordable for more people, and buy lots of accessories? If you are prepared to pay more, then buy two. I'm afraid this thread has lead to Canadianism (see my last post) colored by HKelitism. A terrible mix of sentiment.

Chances are it will be restricted.

If it comes off the prohibited list, it will be non restricted.

TSE is not going to base it's prices off what I say or the contents of this thread :p . They know that they have to keep the price low enough to prevent people from importing them via the US. Even if you were to use Questar at $200 an import it would be in the ballpark of $700. A business would have a difficult time flogging it for much more than that given US prices.

simple question why would it ? i mean if it was easy taking stuff off the list why dont we go after more significant stuff ?

It's not a matter of "taking stuff off the list" for the sake of doing so. I am thinking the RCMP have made an assumption on this firearm's classification based on the mere mention of it being similar in appearance and handling to an HK MP-5 without having examined a GSG-5 in the first place.

If that's the case, alarm bells should be going off with every one of us as we have a national police force that is willing to rush to judgement without a proper technical evaluation. That raises huge questions regarding their impartiality.

For the life of me, I don't understand why a "freedom to Information" request isn't made with the RCMP to get a copy of their analysis regarding their inspection of this firearm.

If the GSG-5 isn't prohib, then by definition, its barrel length and overall length, would classify it as non-restricted.
