If I read this thread correctly, they were prohibited because they looked like the MP5, which is prohib by name. Once the RCMP states these guns are not MP5 derivatives they will be non-restricted by overall length, barrel length is irrelevant because these are rimfires.

The fact that it scares people wouldn't stop me for a second.

Hey Mopar,
Would you ride around on your motorcycle with it strapped openly, to your back? Technically, as long as it's unloaded (and Non-Restricted) then you are legally allowed to transport it like that. I wonder how far you'd get before the cops pulled you over because some soccer mom freaked out though. There was a guy on here a while ago that rode around on his motorcycle like that. Caused quite a stir, in the city he lived in and on the forums here. :)

Edit: I just reread my post and I don't want you to think I'm challenging you or doubting your voracity about this, I'm just making a comment. I think that if I was retired and I didn't mind losing my license for awhile then I might drive around on my motorcycle with my rifle strapped to my back. The first time the cops come I would have all the paperwork ready at the door, be polite, let them in to look around etc. Then the next time, and the next time. Pretty soon they wouldn't bother coming around anymore. I think that they would get calls and they'd just say "Oh don't worry, that's just John riding to the range again." I just don't know for sure if that would eventually help or harm the sport. Help as in get people used to the idea of seeing guns and maybe get them interested in them. Or harm in that they would change the laws to prevent anyone from seeing the guns at all.
Sorry for the hijack, all this just popped into my mind with the previous post.

No I wouldn't. I wouldn't ride to the range with even a lever gun on my back. I said run around the woods. And yes I certianly would take it out in the bush.

A guy got nailed walking out of Italian Sporting Goods with a rifle slung. Just a block up from a gun store. He was in the right of course, but just because we CAN do something doesn't always mean that we SHOULD.

I know exactly what you mean. I wish it was more acceptable, but right now I have my non-restricted rifles locked in a case on the floor in the back of the truck with a blanket over it, out of view of the public. When I get the GSG-5 I will take it out to the woods and shoot it, but it will be hidden and locked in it's case until I get there.
 
Mopar and Mercury, whereabouts do you guys go shooting? Any good wooded areas you can recommend?

I always go out to Sylvester road in Mission but that's too long of a drive. Anything around the North Shore? I'd imagine there are areas along the Sea to Sky as well...

Nah man, there are places, I just don't know about any close. I spend a bit of time out in the Okanagan where if you follow any road long enough you'll find a place to shoot.
 
I don't know of any place in Nvan to go shooting. There used to be a place in Deep Cove but I think it's been overrun with granola's walking their cats. I suppose you could head up to the seymour demonstration forrest and just keep heading North until you left the public, and the city boundary behind, but that's a bit counterproductive, as you'd have to go a long way to get away from either.

What about around Squamish? I always liked the scenery there better than Mission.
 
From what I've read about the squamish area, you just have to go up one of the many dirt roads several clicks and pull over and shoot. I've driven up several dirt roads and found shell casings. Now, that's not to say that whomever it was, was shooting legally, but from what I've been able to find out that is the case. I suppose the best thing to do would be call the RCMP or CO's and ask them. Then again they might tell you no just for the hell of it. Someone with more experience shooting in the Squamish area would be better answering your question.

Bingo! Some here are just used to paying more than in the US despite big changes in the dollar over the years. Gun from the US should be (and some are) way down from when the Canadian dollar was only worth $0.65 US. Back then you're paying 50% more just for the exchange but now you're paying 50% more to be patriotic? :confused:

And while there can be delays and expenses to personally import guns from the USA because of US export control permits these guns are manufactured in Germany. As a result they could be imported straight from Germany or a host of other countries that don't have such silly export laws and thus less cost.

It was put on the list incorrectly simply by the way it looks. If it was based simply on looks then there would be no black paintball/airsoft guns either. There theory is to just ban guns till there is a complaint.

My thought is that the future success of this design (and VZ-58s, Type 97As, 180Bs, SIG, etc. for that matter) is tied to large numbers. Few high priced guns may make people feel good about themselves, but few numbers makes a tempting target for the banners. Have lots of them out there, used in plain view safely and legally, and the stigma lessens.
 
OT but....you B.C. guys should move somewhere a little more central in Canada to get away from the freaks.
 
i understand everyone points but lots of other weapon are prohibited just for looking like the real deal. there is even a 22lr that look like an AK that is prohibited and it has nothing to do with an AK (ruko sometihng something) there is a lot of thoses and nobody never go the RCMP to re-classified them

hard to tell what's plastic and what's metal, but it looks nice!

Note the 16" barrel (short barrels in US are PITA to get and require a special permit IIRC) that would explain why short barreled version hasn't poped up yet (in the US)...
