Hello all, i just purchased my first .22 handgun a browning buckmark hunter with a 7 1/4" barrel. I plan on doing a lot of iron sight shooting with it to improve that skill but the question I have is would an airsoft optic be adequate for a .22 handgun?
Thanks!

.22 red dots are pretty cheap. I bought the Buck Mark Reflex sight for under $100.

edit I just checked and it was $64.99 from Wanstalls..... including tax and shipping it came to about $84

I have 2 trs-25's. One is great----one is a pos. Both bought new----the pos was replaced under warranty, bushnell red dots are only a year warranty; (with another pos). I also have (4) vortex venoms (and 1 viper). Love them!

I used a Bushnell trs25 on my 22/45 until I bought a Vortex Viper 6moa. Both works pretty well but honestly I still prefer the Bushnell better. I also have the Buckmark red dot but the the trs25 and viper are both much lower than the buckmark red dot.

I agree that the Buck Mark reflex is high....takes some getting used to. I have the Bushnell TRS 25 on my Buck Mark rifle and it is much lower. OTOH it was about 2x the price.

None of this answers the OP's question about Air Soft optics. I know nothing about them but would observe that you usually get what you pay for.

As for the airsoft question. Yes it works. Dunno the brand but my friend put an airsoft red dot on his M&P22 running for at least a year. For .22 there should be no problem unless the red dot you got is really really crappy. I won't try anything higher than .22 though.

The BM Reflex I had on my BM hunter was a POS. I would not recommend one to anyone.

It should work fine. The BM red dot is not really that horrible and for sh*ts and giggles I even tried it on my 12ga doing a box of 00 it didn't loose zero... much ;)

I do have issues with the crappy screw mounting point and it is a bit too high for my taste for pistol. The red dot might not be awesome under a sunny day even at brightest setting and seems to shake a bit more than my Vortex as well.... but other than that it is not too bad. I would avoid putting it on any moving slides

But the price is a strong point. It is cheap and seems more reliable than the unknown made in China airsoft red dots at similar price point

I have an itac defence 4moa dot that has worked great for over 500 rounds of 38 special.
My favorite red dot is my Burris Fastfire 3 3moa. It cost a bit more than some, but far less expensive than an Aimpoint.
I want to try a 2moa Holosun Red Dot I think they are around 250.00?

I put a cheap $30 red dot sight I bought on Amazon on my 22/45 Lite. It's actually been working very well. Might have to go with a Vortex Venom or Viper if this one dies though.
