.22 Pistols

Browning Buckmark

Pros: very accurate (better than I am), relatively inexpensive, 1911 grip angle (if I'm remembering this properly). Well built, with the right weight, many models to choose from.
One of the few Brownings I actually like.

Cons: Mags are expensive and made by browning only (that I have found), cleaning is a pain (but manageable)

I am also a buckmark owner. Mine is the Standard blued 2006 model. Yes mags are a little expensive but i dont find cleaning it to be much trouble. No more than the ruger MRKII. Which is funny I started with a ruger, sold it since i didnt like the grip angle, got a browning challenger after that, then a Hammerli International, sold them and ended up with a Buckmark and a profit. For me its the best sporting pistol ive shot. Good accuracy, simple design, easy to clean without dissasembly, cheap parts if needed, flipping over the trigger springs makes for one of the better stock triggers ive tried. And also for the money it is well built with great detail, better than average sights, and eats the federal bulk ammo. I definatly suggest one.

My choice of target pistols

If you like Colt products, AND want something with real "character," find yourself a nice old Colt Camp Perry single-shot .22rf. These old timers were designed strictly for punching paper, with accuracy, and without all those gee gaws we've come to expect these days. ;)

Colt factory letter says this one was shipped January 29, 1934 (74 years ago) to a Fort Worth, Texas dealer. There were only 2525 Camp Perry models produced between 1920 and 1941.

Currently, I have 3 .22 pistols:

1.) Beretta 87T; accurate, reliable and fun to shoot. Same grip angle as a 1911. Looks like Robocop's gun. Only con is barrel weight has to come off for disassembly. Somewhat pricey.

2.) Ruger MkII Government Competition; super accurate, reliable and kinda fun to shoot, only kinda fun to shoot because, like MacDeth said, it's too easy to shoot accurately with them. No cons.

3.) S&W 617; accurate, reliable and fun to shoot. Available with a 10-round cylinder for the non-traditionalists. Only con is that the newer ones are a tad pricey with a slightly lower build quality when compared to the older pre-lock ones.

.22 rimfire-the Ruger MK II with the 10 inch bull barrel, a 100 yard silhouette gun with a 2-6X Bushnell Trophy on top along with Pachmyar grips. Uncle Mikes belt and holster to go along with it. Amazing accuracy, as the other guys have stated, you think you are a good shot with one of these, LOL

S&W mod 17-2
S&W mod 41

I have a MKIII Hunter. I put a Burris Fastfire on it and this thing is scary accurate with cheap ol AE 40gr solids.

This is the result of 50 rds at 25 yds :D:dancingbanana:

Those holes outside the coloured target are .357's from earlier that day

A .22 in the cabinet is a must. Great fun, easy on the wallet and once you learn to shoot you can use it to teach others.

I have a Browning Buckmark and I love it.... a lot. I held and shot other .22 pistols but the buckmark just feels right in my hands and it loves the cheap federal ammo.

Ruger mark III 22/45, bull barrel. I cant put it down. Mines a little fussy with ammo. It'll soon have a burris fastfire on it (when the mount arrives). Future plans for a VQ accurizing kit.

I've got a single six as well. It's a fun little plinkler and will shoot any 22lr, plus you can have the 22wmr for that extra umph.

Buckmark 7.25 URX here. She's long but nice and steady to hold, love the rubber grips. Only have about 500 rounds though it so far, and it's way more accurate for than I am(new to pistol shooting). Won't go wring with one.

GF has a Beretta U22 Neos, eats everything like candy. Bit small for my hands but fits her perfectly.

Ruger Mark I with 7 inch tapered bull barrel and factory muzzle brake. Good shooter; I've seen virgin pistol shooters shine with it too.
Showing it's age though (40-50 years), the odd FTF & needs a new part every couple of years.
