How big is the bank?Hi. I'm looking for a precision .22 riffle that won't break the bank. Any suggestions?
i have a savage mark II btvs that is also a tack driver.I have a Savage mark 2 FVSR that is a budget tackdriver.
Nice ! That's more what I'm looking for. And it's for my 10 year old son to. Thanks for the detailed advice. RegardsIf you're looking for something fancy like the cool kids have with an aluminum chassis and a truck axle barrel, you can stop reading here. If you're ok doing some tinkering, the suggestion of a Scorpio is great. Here's my son's rifle, shortened the stock for him by almost an inch, added a nice long ARCA rail from amazon with some JB wend and machine screws, made a bigger bolt knob, cleaned up the crown and smoothed the action, 3d printed some 2 round mags extensions so they hold 12 now, trigger job, made a cheek riser from a plastic bucket.

This target was 10 rounds of SK standard plus at 100m. The flyer was my fault, the bipod slid on the bench at just the wrong time. The base rifle is definitely a bit rough when you get it, sort of like the manufacturer did 90% of the work to build a great rifle, then sells it for 1/3 or 1/4 of what a great rifle would cost. It's no cz, but I would take a Scorpio over a Savage any day, even if they cost the same.

You are right. Should be more detailed question. It's for my son. Shooting from a bench with a bipod at the range. Want to shoot up to 100y but mostly 50y. +/- 800$ scope not included. Looking for a bolt action preferably. How big is the bank?
What sort of precision do you want?
What supports will you use? Of the bench? Standing on your hind legs?
The answers you get are only as relevant as your expectations are specific.
You're welcome. Everything I did should be pretty easy for anyone with some mechanical skill and basic hand tools to replicate, except making a bolt knob. But you might find someone with a short barrel version that would prefer a smaller knob and would be willing to trade, or if you want to send the bolt to me, I could make another.Nice ! Kristian, I haven't looked at it too closely, but what's holding the butt pad in place on the Scorpio's, was it easy to remount the pad after you shortened the stock? I was thinking that I would prefer it if the stock was an inch or so shorter.....If you're looking for something fancy like the cool kids have with an aluminum chassis and a truck axle barrel, you can stop reading here. The Anschutz 64 is an under appreciated gem of a rifle. Simply amazing trigger and the rifles shoot very well. Can find Anschutz 64s for that price.
