I went to the range today and had a great time with my .22 rifles, but a strange thing happened my targets for 50 and 100m were basically the same. First of all let's start with the gun. It's a Cooey Ranger, and shoots groups of about 1 1/2"groups at 100m with the odd flyer, but today the groups were about 2"+. I blamed it on the wind. My groups at 50m were about the same 2"+.?? At 50 they are normally an about 1 inch.
The scope is a Bushnell 4x9x50 I picked up at Canadian Tire on sale. I have to use the scope because I can't see a 1/2" bull at 50m with out one. The ammo is Winchester Dyno points. It's the same ammo I always use but is a new box. I did this a few times to check and got the same results. What is going on? I want to blame the ammo but I want to fix the problem before I go again. What do you think?

Did you shoot at 50 first or 100? It is common to lose concentration during a shooting session, particularly on a day when the wind is messing with your groups.

During a solid grouping, I have to walk around a bit between shots sometimes. My eyes get tired and go out of focus easily, then I notice my posture is forced and shaky, and then my heartbeat doesn’t help for precision shots..

I get different groupings depending on the ammo I shoot. Some ammo can cause accuracy issues based on their variation in charge and craftsmanship. This alone can throw my groups off, with the 22.

If the same happens with an ammo like minimags then you might simply be shooting differently at 50 and 100 yards. Did you change your posture between these groups? Is your eye always locked up perfectly? The 50 yards usually will give some parallax error, which is enough to cause this exact symptom..

I shot these back to back, 50-100-50-100-50-100, then about 20 rounds at 50 and 10 at 100, then i shot at golf balls.I will try mini mags and bulk fed next time, if that dosen't help I will try a different scope. If it were any other gun I wouldn't even think about it but this gun is a rock solid shooter.
