That’s how I feel about my ruger ranch rimfire.If you're on a budget, have a look at the inexpensive used euro 22s on Intersurplus..To echo the above I've tried to love 10/22s but never got past hello with most of them. I do like the Ruger American bolt actions and just picked up another in 22 wmr off GP.. turned out the guy lived 5 minutes from my place

As mentioned many times. Truly hard to beat a CZ 457. Even the simple 20” thin barrel models seem to be incredible rifles. Light, smooth, and accurate. Truly one of the best rimfires on the market today. One of these happens to be my favorite range toy and the rifle I have personally shot the most.
But if you want a semi auto. It’s hard to beat the versatility of a 10/22. Lots of fun to play building blocks to assemble your perfect semi shooter(can very easily become very expensive process). Fantastic reliable platform that can offer pretty competitive performance and accuracy with a bit of work and $$. Fantastically fun little rifles. For me assembling them has proven more fun than shooting them as I just tend to enjoy bolt action rifles more. But alas I can easily see more of these rifles in my future.
BUT if you want a pure classy semi auto that can pack down into a back pack (takedown). There can only be one in my opinion. The Browning S/A 22. Just classic beautiful glossy walnut and deep blued steel rifle. Fancy scroll work on the receiver bottom charging/ejecting and tube fed. Just a very clean looking slender, LIGHT fantastically reliable shooter that’s been in production since 1914. I have an older model that’s an heirloom but will one day get a new Japan produced model with a barrel mounted scope.
And lastly if a lever actions your game. Henry makes a nice budget offering with a lifetime warranty and they truly back the product from all accounts. But again the browning offerings just scream quality and fit and finish is second to none. I would love a browning bl22 but the Henry fits my budget better and performs perfectly fine for my plinking out to 100 meters.

I didn't read the entire thread but im surprised that the new and older versions of the Savage/Lakefield/Cooey 64s weren't mentioned. Solid shooters

Cleaning is a pain. 10/22s have quicker solutions to the problems rimfire have. Ain’t nobody creating aftermarket for savage. Their QC is also easily the worst.

I can agree that the takedown process is a little more involved than a 10/22 but it isn't an absolute drag, unless the person cleaning it has little to no patience. I never understood sinking another $1500 dollars into a $300 dollar gun to make it 'better'. It's like buying a Chinese copy of Gibson Guitar and putting Genuine parts into it to try to make it sound and be as good as a real Gibson.

Yep, the Marlin 60 s/b #1 'cause even used it's better made and more accurate than the 10/22-'ptuie!' and prob also better than the Henry ( unless you're a Cowboy ). I had a Glenfield-60 back ca 1972, about $40 from K-Mart and buddies w-Rugers were jealous of my rifle's accuracy, especially since it cost about Half what the Rugers did. My Glenfield didn't have the squirrel, just the pressed grip. Prob 'cause it was a 'K-Mart Special'.
