this is not bs. it's called 22 rifle super charger.
my babba shooting buddy just called me about this.
it's a 5 page long how to in the 1962 sports afeild
gun annual, very intersting. i am now in the market
for a cheap 22 rifle to babba.

"BUILD A RIFLE SUPERCHARGER" would be the article in question(thanks google) no idea what it's about though.

I recall many years ago reading an article in an gun mag (it may have been Field & Stream) which described drilling a small hole about halfway down the under side of a .22rf barrel.

Attached to the barrel at the location of the hole(I believe it was brazed) was a piece of seamless steel tubing with the same bore as a 22 chamber.(This may have been the chambered part of the barrel from another .22 rifle) This piece had internal threads which allowed an allen keyed screw to be installed which sealed this so called auxillary chamber.

A .22 lr cartridge with the bullet removed was inserted into this contraption & the screw tightened down. When the rifle was fired the hot gas ignited the powder in the auxillary chamber resulting in higher velocity.

The article made no mention of accuracy or the resulting pressures. I was in my late teens when I read this & even as a some what wild & irresponsible kid, I thought it far too dangerous to attempt.

I hope I have not given anyone reading this any ideas. If you want a higher velocity rimfire, I'm sure going with the .22 Magnum ot 17HMR is a far easier & safer way to get it. :nest: :D
