can someone explain how various .22 rounds claiming to be 1280 fps,or near that number can sound so very different?
federal champion ammo lets out a crack where t-bolts and golden bullets a dull bang but claim to have the same ballistics.
they obviously use a different powder due to the dirtiness of the remington ammo but should they not sound similar if the ballistics match?

Also have to compare 36 to 40 gr as well. You would have to chrono each shot and match sound with speed.
Anytime I hear a louder or soft pop it usually results in a higher or lower impact on target. Unless it's match ammo the power charge is likely to vary slightly. I also notice a slight sound difference between different manufactures so power type, crimp, grain weight etc will all come into play.

Would worry to much unless you hear just a tiny pop, then you may want to have a look down the barrel.

Depends on the brass too, some of that cheap ammo uses hard brass, doesnt expand or seal well also, creating odd dynamics
Just look at the spent cases, the expensive ammo tends to make nice deep cuts with the firing pin.

The new Winchester M-22 ammo sounds like Rice Crispies (snap, crackle, pop) when I shoot it. Still reasonable accuracy, though.
I haven't chronographed any of it yet.
