If I put a nice bushnell 22 scope on a rifle that shoots 223 will I have any issues? From what Ive researched it seems like it should be fine but Im skeptical. Would there be a significant difference between a 22 optic and an optic made for center fire rifles?

If the scope is strong enough to hold up against the recoil, it might work. This is the internal pieces I am talking about - the erector, and the lens mounts. .223 is pretty mild, but might be more than Bushnell designed for.
Next issue might be eye relief - many 22 scopes have shorter distance - your eye has to be closer to the eyepiece to get a full view - may or may not be an issue for you with a .223
Last, most 22 scopes are set up for about 50 yards parallax; most centerfires scopes are set up for 150 yards parallax. You check for this by holding the scoped rifle on a solid rest, then gently move your eye up/down or side to side - when you are "out of parallax" it will appear as if the cross hair moves on the target. For a fixed scope there is only one distance that the cross hair will stay put when you move your head - so shorter range or longer range, can have some error, even though the cross hairs were "dead on". This parallax error can be minimized with real good cheek weld discipline - always the exact same for every shot.

So your Bushnell scope might or might not be strong enough inside, it will probably have shorter eye relief, and you will have to deal with the parallax issue for any kind of range shooting - like 300 yards.
