I just unpacked a near mint '72 vintage Brno Model 2 with an old Tasco 4X with a post reticle...off it came....and after perusing the scope choices in the cabinet I realized that I don't have a real good rimfire scope...lots of 3-9's, Burris and Leo's but nothing with an AO..

Have you serious rimfire shooters found that you really "need" a scope with parallax adjusted at 50 or 75 yards for a .22LR?...or will a 3-9X Burris Fullfield II or a 3-9X Leupold work OK?

I'm thinking maybe I should get a serious "rimfire" scope...but which one?...I'd like at least 12X on the top end for punching paper....

I haven't shot much rimfire since my two boys stopped shooting gophers with me (well I sorta stopped too:redface: ) and started messing with guitars, quads and girls....not bad pass times all of them but I'm getting back into rimfire shooting...IF I can find the time....:D

Pass on the 'rimfire' scopes. Mount a bushnell banner 4-12x 40mm on 'er. Should be in the $150 ballpark

Banner's ain't the greatest scope ever, but are certainly more that adequate for the non-existant recoil of a 22. You don't need a leupy.

You definitely need AO, especially if you're using higher magnifications. For gopher hunting, I have mine dialled in at 4x, and the AO adjusted to 75yds. The parallax error is small enough that I can still peg gophers out to 100ish yards. The 12x end is more useful at the range than in the field.

Me I had choice a banner 6X18X50mm AO, I really like de parralax setting. I use it to know the distance of the gopher, when the view of the gopher is clear like cristal I just read the distance on the objectif ring and I use my ballistic card to know my hold over. It cost me around 150$.

I lean towards a good weaver..V 9 or 16 if your want to cover all the bases.
With upper end "rifle scopes" like a Leo you can't get focus under 50 yds where with the weavers you can. I also like finer x hairs for rimfire targets.
AO isn't really necessary on RF. If your going to use it for gophers and such
a small 4 power weaver or most any will do. I have gotten to stay with
weaver for rimfire thru parallax reasons for focus reasons as I like to shoot
USBR targets with 1/10" 10 ring, but then power is needed as well. Tried
a 6-18 Leo and in winter 25 yds you cant get it focused.

I think a 3200 is good enough for anything. They are great scopes. I have one but not on a rimfire.

I just bought a cheap $50 tasco rimfire scope for mine. I don't think I will need anything better

I ordered a Burris fullfield II 3-9x 40mm for my hopefully soon to arrive Ruger K10/22T. I've heard very positive things about them.

I mounted a 6-24x44 Hawke Varmint II with Mil-Dot reticle on my CZ 452 Varminter. Very happy with this set-up. Worth looking into.
