.22 semi-auto

I hae a Mossberg 151M, an old Cooey 64 (my very first rifle, and no feed problems at all), a recently acquired Taurus Mdl 63 (copy Win 63), and a Tyrol Model 5522. All are semis. I used to have a minty Win 490 as well.

The Mossberg is more accurate than appearance suggests, great target peep sights. The Taurus is a bullet-eating machine, and a great plinker. Outstanding build quality. The Austrian Tyrol is my most unusual .22 - probably only a handfull in Canada - and accurate to boot.

Yes, new production rifles aren't the only ones out there. Do a little research and you'll find a mind-boggling number of makes and designs out there. Some of the newer designs leave much to be desired.

Browse around gunsamerica, or auctionarms, or gunbroker, or here in the EE and you'll see quite a variety.

+2 on the 151M.

Here is mine that Cost me a whopping $95.00 Canadian (from Marstars used gun selection). :D

The only mod I did to her was slide on another more powerful/modern scope...Note I 'plink' at 75, 100 and even 200 yards (with the scope). :D

I can hardly wait to take her grouse hunting this year. :D

There are many good semi auto 22's out there, I have bought and sold quite a few over the last couple of years, to me, it's really a matter of personal taste. What it boils down to, is what is it that you expect for your buck. For me, Reliability, Accuracy, Construction, Feel, and availability of parts, are the most important factors in choosing one. As other members have said, search threads here and on RFC, and even on google, there is a wealth of information out there. Personally, I like older rifles, my favourites right now were all made before 1970.

My teenage son wants to get a Ruger 10/22 and customize it. My next semi will probably be a T/C 22 Classic Benchmark.

I can see a serious shooting contest coming up... :D

But after 35 years of shooting guns I can get better groups offhand then most people can that use a rest... ;) :p

But probably not against most of you guys though!!!
