Is someone ever tried to use .22 short or long in 10/22? I know it won’t cycle semi-auto but as a single shot will it work? (Barrel/bolt wise). Low noise of these rounds won’t attract attention of neighbors and good for indoor practice.

That is not in the slightest a suggestion of illegal activity whammy.

Yes, if you don't mind dealing with the hassle of single loading, and with shorts frequent case jams (it extracts often but won't eject, jamming the case sideways in the action), it works. Try CCI CB caps, they are dead quiet. Usually Canadian Tire carries them.

Why not buy just a .22 bolt action for this practice? You can get one for 75 bucks probably on the EE here, and it will actually cycle them, probably be more accurate than the 10/22 too. :) Certainly more fun due to the less hassle, 10/22's are great for plinking fast, but this is a job for a little bolt, lever, or pump.

You can also buy CCI CB long ammo, they still will not cycle the 10-22 but will fit in the mage better and will not jam as much. Basically it is a long rifle case but with a small amount of powder and very quiet. I use them in mine from time to time.

Try CCI CB Long as a single shot, load them to mag, no jams, have to manually re-####, it's soooo quite.....i can belive it....it the same cartrige as 22LR but smaller bullet. It makes a bit, just a bit more sound then air-rifle. Exelent for indoor usage, no need for ear protection and won't grab attention unless y deside to use this on your backyard ;)

It's not nearly a .22LR actually, but it's loaded in the same case so it will feed in .22LR guns. It's a 29gr bullet (like the .22 Short), but even considerably less powerful yet than the .22 Short. The CB longs chrono'd at about 660fps for me, and the CB shorts a bit faster, about 710fps. Plenty of pop for tin cans and small vermin mind you, lots of fun to shoot, that's for sure.

Hmmm strange, I thought 22 CCI CB shorts and long have the same amount of powder inside...and ballistic wise according to cci web they should be the same. So short ones will be louder then?

cci shorts are louder in my guns, cci longs are amazingly quiet, but hard to find in my area... they had them at wall mart for a while... No difference in hunting power in my books ( I hunt squirrels and grouse with them...)

We talking CCI CB Shorts not HP Shorts, right?
Thanks

CCI shorts are quieter, and faster, because they are more efficient. Same powder charge, but the shorter case allows much more efficient combustion of the small powder charge. I also did a 25 yard accuracy review in my Kimber SVT and the shorts were considerably more accurate. That said, I have a stash of both, as the longs are very useful in .22LR guns like yours in that they feed perfectly.
