Is .22 short legal/and/or available in canada?

my dad wants to shoot some varmints at close range and wants .22 short's so as to cut down on noise and travel of any shots that don;t find the intended target.

Why not shoot subsonic 22lr rounds? easier to find, quiter then 22 shorts, and because of the lower velocity you wont have to worry about stray rounds.

CCI makes a .22 CB short.
It's about as close to silent as you can get.
A lot less noise when compared to a .22 CB lr.

Just about any crow that I ever saw shot with a .22LR required a follow-up shot. Crows are tough.

For crows...I hear that .220 Swift works good.

I have an old Husqvarna rolling block chambered in .22 short only -shells are readily available-but at a price-wholesale sports has a brick for $41.95.They're about 1050 fps-accurate and plenty fast enough for small game and potting grouse

they are damn near scilent but when i hit a crow with one all that happened was a puff of feathers and the bastard flew away. Pretty much like using an airgun.

I'd say you either missed or hit him too far out. I used to have problems with crows stealing dog food. My 495fps .177 Beeman took care of 6 of them before they wised up. Only one managed to fly a short distance. Shot placement is essential. CBs kill things very well within it's limits IMO.

thanks for the responses. i will tell him to visit a gun shop and ask for some shorts or subsonic longs/shorts whatever is available.

crows are tough-the best shot is either directly facing them or facing away-a broadside shot has to penetrate the tough wing feathers before getting to the vitals. But a breast shot even with a air rifle will generally put them down.

The over lapping wing feathers is like a natural Kevlar vest for the crow. KD

wal mart 50 rounds of winchester 22 shorts cost like 3.37 +tax, same box at CDN Tire 4.99 +TAX

I can hold 25 of these in my marlin tube fed 981... nice and quiet compared to 22lr.

22 shorts have a lot of zip to them-even CB shorts-I was surprised to see them going right through a cardboard box stuffed with 10'' heavy papersacking and right on through the 5/8 plywood backing at 25 yards.Got to watch the richochets too_Old timers tell me of even taking deer with head shots at close range with 22 shorts-these are no toys
