Effective Range trial of .22lr Shot in a Smooth Bore Barrel
as Compared to a Rifled Barrel.

Stevens Favorites 1894 , 22'' Smooth Bore , 22'' Rifled

Stevens recommended the ''Sparrow Gun'' for indoor pest control , interior
damage was kept to a minimum.

Ammunition - CIL WIZ-BANG .22 LONG RANGE SHOT #12 (1960's)
CCI Shotshell 22 EX LR #12 (2022) 165 pellets

CIL 3 mtrs , 6 mtrs & 9 mtrs , CCI 6 mtrs & 9 mtrs

Various shots with little noticeable difference .

Rifled effective out to 3 mtrs , marginal at best.

That's pretty good for 6m honestly. I'm impressed. I had the same patterning with my rifled 22 as you so I bought a 177 pellet pistol for shooting mice, although now seeing the smooth bore results I kind of want to make a smooth bore cooey 39

Slightly better @ 6 mtrs , 10 mtrs to follow.

I owned and experimented with a .22 smooth bore rifle. I had no success trying to kill a grouse at 25 feet... dust all around the grouse and it flew away... didn't get that one pellet in the head needed for a kill. .22 shot is pretty pathetic.

Should try some federal or Winchester I do believe they still make crimped birdshot.

I've tern'd targets around when patter'in shawt shells.

Hey gun tech

I have shot small birds & mice (in grainaries) at 3 to 4 mtrs with good success
not surprised that it wouldn't take a Grouse @ 25' (7mtrs) as the SHOT is #12.
