.22 survival rifles

i would be looking for a 12ga for a survival gun way before a 22. slugs for the big stuff, #2-4 for the med stuff and 7's for the small guys (if food is needed)...just my 2 cents tho.

I think the .22 is for survival that involves collecting game to eat. A 12ga will protect you from any animal in the wild (maybe in Africa you'd need a G36 or a minigun, tho) but I just got a Dominion Arms Grizzly (12.5" bbl, Rem 870) and the damn thing weighs close to 10lbs so if you plan on taking that into the wild you should prolly bank on adding at least 10lbs to your pack with ammo. And a .22 shell takes up way less space and weighs less than a 12ga bird hunting round. That said, with a shotgun you can kill pretty much w/e you want.

I have no experience w/survival guns, but if you're packing light go with a .22 designed for the purpose. Although I bought that 12ga for bear defense, it's largely for peace of mind when I'm out alone rather than practicality... and if you're going into remote locations with big aggressive bears you're obviously taking a 12ga or high powered rifle anyways!

Jeez!!! Get an M6 22/410 it folds up,has storage for 22 &410s and with a brenneke 410 slug a bear is in trouble. 44Mag ballistics. I have and still do shoot coyotes with mine . The 22lr Stinger@ 50 yds is quite fatal on the buggers. I know its not solely a 22 but why not use the 410 too! I swear by mine. It has a millet red dot and see thru mts for the irons if nessesary. JITC

would love one know of any at a good price?

Muhahahaha, my plan to buy all the M6s in the country and hold them until their used price goes over $1000 is working! Except I only have the one Stainless unit.. oh well. :D It is a great little gun. You have to love a folding rifle-shotgun that stores its own ammo in the buttstock!

Can't think of a better survival .22 then the Ruger 10/22. You can put a folding or collapsible stock on it and make it even smaller for packing around. I got one and of those and a Savage Mark ll and while I love my Savage, I tend to always take the 10/22 with me in the bush.

I have the Rossi .22 and 20 gage combo, folds down nicely into it's own nylon package. It is tiny when cased and does not resemble a gun at all, until assembled of course.
It is very accurate, has a great trigger and is simply a whole lot of fun to shoot. It gives a pretty good wallop when shooting slugs due to the light weight of the stock, but it groups them just fine, better than fine actually.
If I were lost in the woods this is the gun I would want, I keep an assortment of ammo (shotty and .22) in zip-lock bags inside the bag and it is ready for anything from squirrels to bear.
In retrospect, I sorta wish I bought it in a .270/12guage but for the daily use it gets that would be too much gun, I love being able to shoot shorts/longs from the same gun at will.

I have the M6 in .22Hornet/.410. it's a nice combo,IMHO, and very accurate at 100m. Plus you can load both cal. for the gun and for the game your after. I'm looking to fit a small, compact and rugged scope to it. Opps, sorry. I forgot I'm in the Rimfire section. LOL

I got the Rossi in a small shop in Brantford Ontario, the whole kit was about $250 new. I can get their contact info for you if needed.
