Wondering if the 22 lr has the power to take down a threat, like zombies if it's a well placed shot ?? Or good cal. for SHTF situation, home defence ?
I like the price of ammo and the weight for storing and carrying.

A well placed shot from a .22 would certainly put an attacking subject down. Head shots would be DRT. Many of the reported killings in the news seem to be the smaller caliber weapons. Easier to hide I guess, but thru a rifle, much more accurate at a distance. The hollow point ammo can really make a mess of the object it hits.

.22LR is often underestimated. It is very capable of killing a person. It wouldn't be my first choice for home defense but it's better than wrestling with someone who may be armed.

Very underestimated. ranges over 300 yards still have enough energy to kill. Coyotes and badgers have fallen from my 144lsb at over 200. But truly depends on the placement of the shot.

(1) If you ever fire .22LR hollowpoints at a pumkin  , for example, just take a moment to look at the exit "wounds" ..........it's plenty informative/educational ! :D

(2) Accurate suppressive fire might be more easily achieved with a .22 LR .....

Can't readily comment on "home defence" - I like "not being banned" too much !

Didn't even notice the Zombie part of the question. I thought it was about hunting with a rimfire.
The OP must be about ten years old or younger to ask such a question.

Nowadays,it could be thirty, but still acting like a ten year old.:D

Yup. This was killed with a .22lr single shot rifle.

A local farmer was having issues with moose in his yard, destroying the trees. He tried everything. God fed up one day and took a pot shot at a moose 100 yards away with beat up old Cooey .22 Rimfire.

The thing dropped like a rock. Straight through the heart. Called the fish cops and the took it away. They didn't care, thought it was hilarious.

dated 1953, she had a single shot .22 and shot it in the eye, DRT, must have hit the brain but to be sure it was dead, she fired the rest of her ammo into it, about 6-8 shells. It stood for many years as the biggest griz in the record books.
