22 take down power ?

go with .22 wmr. I got a magnum and never turned back. I dont waste my time with lr's anymore. .22wmr it is so much fun to shoot. More damage at longer distance as well.

the 22wmr travels at 100yds the same speed as an lr leaving at the muzzle.

Said the man just before the Zombie outside his window reaches through and eats his brain.

Didn't even notice the Zombie part of the question. I thought it was about hunting with a rimfire.
The OP must be about ten years old or younger to ask such a question.

Magnum or LR...they are dead just the same. ...but cheaper my way.

I am sure that if the LR will knock down livestock ...it would pierce the bear skull. LR is all my dad used when he did the necessary farm beef or pork preparing.

Once had to put down a whitetail buck shoulder shot, no front drive just rear. 22LR at point blank did not fully penetrate the forehead, twice! Grabbed my 22mag and completely through. Further observations showed the perfectly flattened 22LR slugs in matching craters in the bone. Total thickness was about 5/8". That is some extremely dense and strong bone. Lessons learned, never fire for the forehead but try a behind the ear shot where the deer's skull is very thin.

Let's see, a new poster comes long and basically asks if .22 would be good for shooting people; he likes the cheap, light ammunition.

Thanks for the "dead right there" guys:)....I've also been told that a .22 rifle is the one to have in a SHTF situation, because you would likely be on the move daily foraging. With everything else you would need to carry a 4/5lbs rifle and 200rds weighing in at probably not more than a pound is really all you would want to carry:D......and the ammo will be found just about everywhere.

Your most abundant food source will also be small game.

Check out Zombieland to answer your zombie question. As many will attest a .22 will do the job in a survival situation if you do your part with shot placement. Home defence, well, I don't think you'll get too many members commenting on that one!!;)

Just through the "zombie" word in there for a little laugh !! Should of said 2 legged threat ? Most of you answered my question that it would be ok for a SHTF gun.

And Thank you.

Looking at a 10/22 from what i read hear its a good all around gun.

You guys are going at this question from the wrong end, the gun.
Look at the target. It's slow and predictable but there could be many.

Place a sheet of plywood on a kids wagon, put 10 or more cantaloupes on it and have a buddy pull towards you at an undead shuffle pace.

If you can knock em all off before being overrun you're good to go.

Zombies are like porcupines, they don't move that fast, if you run out of bullets a shovel will do fine.

My first attempt at a 300 yard .22LR gong was to use an old skill saw blade:

Subsonic match ammo is still going at roughly 800 fps. at that distance. Same muzzle velocity as CB Longs. It can still do some damage, even that far out...

Some of the most reliable hi-cap rimfire mags are made for the Ruger 10/22....

I dunno...:nest:...you pour a bit of the Blade-style silver into a .22 LR's hollowpoint :p , and you can theoretically kick some serious vampire/werewolf @$$....:D

Hey I think you guys are on to something here. Maybe you should inform law enforcement and the military of your findings.........

Sounds like a troll looking to see what we think .22lr is good for so he/she can write an article calling for the ban of large capacity semi-automatic rimfire firearms like in Australia. After all, do we not brag about the killing capability of our favourite toys?
