Thanks yall. I think I might as well save for a model 41... didn't know they that sought after
for the price range your looking id say either one of the Rugers or a Browning Buckmark.
while both start sub $500 they climb up from there with longer barrels and bull barrels and better grips and such.
maybe look at the top end ones instead of the blaster ones if accuracy is what your looking for?
Ruger Hunter?
7" barrel with stock fiber optic in case you dont go with optics, bull barrel.
the new MK IV has the new take down button for ease of cleaning.

Browning Buckmark
same deal as above, longer bull barrel with fiber optics if you dont go with a optic.

i picked up both (ruger 22/45 Lite and a Browning Buckmark) and for some reason i find the Browning a hell of a lot more accurate than the ruger.
which kinda bum's me out because the Ruger looks a hell of a lot ###ier!
if you go up from there you looking to get into the S&W 41 range.
if you go down from there than your looking at cheap blasters (1911 knock offs, M&P-22, cheap Glock style knock offs)
while fun to shoot them you wont get the accuracy that you can get out of a 7"+ bull barreled ruger or browning.
for $700 that is what id be looking at.
Get something a bit more affordable. I prefer the Ruger but the others are all good guns and will shoot better than you can (now anyway). Take your extra money and buy a whole hockey sock full of ammunition, a range membership and a lot of targets, maybe even a course or two. Then shoot shoot shoot.
A Ferrari is a much better car than a Volkswagen but when you want to go to the store for a loaf of bread it is not needed and you don't need it to learn to drive.

My S&W M&P22 is a dream to shoot and very accurate. It eats just about anything, with the odd exception of Federal Auto Match Ammo, blunter nose seems to have a feed issue. CCI Mini Mags, even the HP variant and also the cheap CCI Blazer 40gr lead for .07 a round never fail.
Take down is within seconds, not so much for the Buckmark's or older Rugers, the Mark IV is one button take down.
I like that it is a full size auto and if you have a larger calibre M&P the erg's are pretty much the same and it fits the Blade-Tech holster for my 9.
try and find a Margolin (also known as a Vostok)?
usually available on EE for around 350ish?
not cool like S&W etc but very, very good pistol
